Not sure what has changed but they have become more noticeable, maybe they have switched to lighter adds that become prominent in the dark modes, but making them darker would be prominent in the lighter modes, not sure if there is the option to change the adds depending on the mode used.
Also the adds between messages seam to have got bigger, its a combination of both these made me block them all.
Right now, there are ads between messages (posts) within the topic threads and there are larger ads at the bottom of topic threads. Nothing was changed with the latter. The graphical banners have been removed from between messages and from the top of categories (forums)
The ads between messages take up more space. They look more like regular posts ā but not exactly. I can make them look darker on light themes and lighter on dark themes (or did you mean the opposite so they stand back instead of stand out?)
The ads between messages may be forum dependent. So the high traffic forums will definitely get more ads and more variety of ads than the low traffic forums. Iāll list the top 10 forums below
Yes, ads between messages are very noticeable. For me itās less about the colour, more about the high frequency (every 10 replies or so it feels) and the repetitiveness - different ads could be interesting in a way, but seeing the same ad time and again while scrolling doesnāt increase interest in the product for me.
Iām reminded of the old adage āif it aināt broke, donāt fix it.ā Today it seems people are trying to create solutions for problems that donāt exist.
(Thatās not directed at any admins/mods who are trying their best with managing ads⦠just a general observation about how itās constantly getting more difficult to cut through the clutter and navigate forums nowadays⦠theyāre slowly starting to look more like social media feeds)
Cheers. Itās actually every 5 replies, believe it or not - so if you think itās more than that, I guess Iām a little ahead? I think discussion these days tend to go longer faster than before, so I will look at increasing this limit (and, thereby, lower the frequency)
Itās still early days yet ā I finally figured out a couple ways to make these ads easily and how to use the built-in ad function a little better. This is why I finally retired use of the graphical banners.[1]
Thank you for this feedback. I thought the recent changes have made the forums more accessible (direct jumps to forums, leaning more on tags to find topics of interest, more prominent search form, among other things). However, these are driven primarily by how I personally use the forums. I am not as active as many others, so I am interested to here how the forums can be made easier for others to use. If you are familiar with Discourse, specific feature requests from that website will be sincerely appreciated
Got it. Still playing with this for now, so your reactions and any suggestions are very welcome.
Btw, I finally discovered Taiwan-based affiliate programs, so I hope to see more that are specifically Taiwan-related. And more iHerb ads, too That will increase the variety of ads. The built-in ad function, however, is pretty manual, even after some of the workflow improvements Iāve done. So, expect this to continue to evolve - at least until the end of May.
FWIW ads on here seem fine to me, at least you donāt have to uncheck permission for 2145 ālegitimite interestā partners individually, and then fumble to try and stop some 2 minute video for a superhero movie playing everytime you change screen.
For the lack of this shitfest, I appreciate Forumosa.
Iām sorry about that, I was making some changes to the themes again today.
You can easily change the theme back by opening up the āhamburgerā menu (it looks like 3 horizontal lines stacked on top of each other) ā depending on whether you or in desktop or mobile, it will be on the upper left and upper right, respectively. When you open the sidebar menu, look at the bottom of it to find the theme selector. Choose Classic or Darkmosa
If you cannot find the hamburger menu, then open up your preferences look for the Interface menu. You will see a dropdown list to choose Classic or another theme. Click this link below if you run into any trouble finding the Interface submenh in Preferences
But it looks like youāve made changes to the Classic theme, so all the previously blue bits are now gray? That doesnāt seem to be fixable on our end?
Iām also not a fan of the new theme. I find it too pale and boring. I need more color in my life.
You are right. I did change the Classic theme in this case because I didnāt think that bright blue color was in line with the color palette I wanted to follow.
Since I can now see that there is a blue shade there, Iāll give that a shot. But going forward, I am more inclined to set up a few more themes[1], so you could switch to those eventually
