l like quicktime. Anything that won’t play on it will on VLC player.
I use iTunes, WinAmp, Nero Media and JetAudio mostly.
Bobpine, did you start this topic in flounder? It’s pretty suitable for tech.
I use all of the above at different times and a bunch of open source onces and free ones. There really isn’t any easy way around it. Media player does a decent job, if you you want to watch a Realmedia something you need to use real player (or something else), same goes for quicktimes.
Sucks too, cause there’s no Linux version of Quicktime (that I know of), but there’s a Linux RealPlayer. I actually like RealPlayer now, because the Linux one works really nice.
Maybe a mod could merge this with this existing thread
Maybe a mod could merge this with this existing thread
I have no flounder powers. Like MK, I actually use them all too. When streaming audio from Aussie sports, it’s WMP. Itunes is great. Quicktimes plays most thing and VLC is necessary.
In Windows, I use VLC almost exclusively - it can play almost anything except RealVideo.
In Linux, Kaffeine and MPlayer. MPlayer can play everything, including RealVideo and QuickTime (not QuickTime VR, though
)
For audio files - Winamp in Windows and Amarok in Linux.

So far everyone uses more than one player…So many of them. I had no clue what was VLC. I googled it and now it’s installed!
Cheers!

I just got it too.
Just what I need, another media player on my computer.

I used to have a ton of them and then asked, “why”? Now it’s all stripped down and I admit to being a MS slave. Bill’s got me by the balls
It might be a good idea to merge this thread.
Might also be a good idea to clean up the other thread unless I’m missing something and it is just a friendly jest.
Take gary’s advice with a grain of salt. He’s Apple-biased. And he’s lying about iTunes - and most Apple stuff - being “easier to use than any software ever created.”
I disliked media player and tried jukebox10 and have just loaded i Tunes.
Benefits.
-
I Tunes somehow found the names to all the songs and stacked them very neatly where Jukebox 10 failed to handle this and did it really quickly.
-
Clean looking screen where Jukebox look a bit dreary.
-
This one is probably my imagination but the music sounds better.
-
I want an I pod mini. I just brought 2 of them for my girls and they are very good.

Ah, don’t get a mini. Go whole hog and get yourself a 60gb iPod. It’ll fill up faster than you might think…
Also, here’s a very good (some say “perfect” but I won’t go that far) iTunes EQ setting:
db +3, +6, +9, +7, +6, +5, +7, +9, +11, +8 db
Open up the EQ and move the sliders to the positions above, from left to right. You will notice a great difference.

Thanks Fearsome, I’ll try that EQ setting. I was even thinking about the shuffle 512
I was sort of thinking a few albums down to the shuffle then move on again a few days later.
For me the sweet spot was the 20Gb model. Good price and right size. However, they’ve changed the pricing and the sizes so that it’s no longer available (except on eBay or whatnot).
The only downside to the full size iPod is that it’s full sized, which can be problematic if you’re wanting to work out/run with it.
Oh, and just to stay on topic: I use VLC for 95% of my media watching, and WMP for the rest.
I like zoomplayer, check it.
I need to find a player that can play my .rm files on a mac.(correctly, like media classic did)
I like Win Media Player presonally. I know it doesn’t do anything extremely well but I believe that it integrates with XP a bit better than Winamp.
The one thing that I think quicktime has on it is you can drag the video forward and reverse on the timeline in realtime windows just skips to the point you drop it on (if that makes any sense).
I find that WMP sounds better, too.
