I like some of the films he is in. Not many actors really impress me.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Alec Guinness, Faye Dunaway. Robert Carlyle. They impress me.
A great movie. Done with a superb ensemble cast that included Dame Maggie Smith when she was still hot. Guinness is great as the blind butler. I wouldn’t call it silly though as it’s too well written (Neil Simon) maybe more madcap.
Yeah, at least Hitler wasn’t a hypocrite or anything.
See Norm MacDonald: The comedian Patton Oswalt, he told me “I think the worst part of the (Bill) Cosby thing was the hypocrisy.” And I disagree. I thought it was the raping. It’s my feeling most rapists are hypocrites. You don’t meet many that go “I like raping and I know it’s not politically correct but, by god” and people go "well, he’s not being a hypocrite and that’s the worst part!
You underestimate how Nazi-themed humor was all the rage in the ‘60’s for a while. Springtime for Hitler has already been referenced: See Hogan’s Heros:
Don’t like John Wayne’s politics, and he had no connection to the airport- it was named in honour of his political stances, so no objections to renaming it.
OTOH, some of his movies were bad, but Stagecoach, Fort Apache, The Searchers, The Shootist, True Grit, were good, sometimes very good.
Good or bad, they should not be cancelled
I saw Megan Fox said she likes to watch the Harry Potter movies when it gets cold and is a good enough reason for me so I think I’m going to to queue those up for some upcoming cold nights.
Anyway, cancelling Clint Eastwood is out. The man is an absolute cinematic icon. And as for directing, Letters of Iwo Jima excuses a lot of 90+ years old opinions.
