They can’t exactly just do a remake of pretty woman without being sued.
Derivative, but fun

This movie doesn’t get talked about enough. Without spoiling too much, I guess some people thought it bungled the third act (I thought it was fine as a ‘Heart of Darkness’ kinda take, but I see where they’re coming from). But I loved it. Especially the cinematography and THAT score! I put it on when I’m trying to get some intense work done.
I’d also add ‘Moon’ to the list of underrated space movies.
Revival of Clockwork Orange at UBC- nobody tried to cancel it, but keep listening to those voices in your head. Why would feminists want to ban a film that shows teeen-age boys as violent misogynist assholes, unless you think he is the hero?
Reminds me of those dire warnings of woke trying to ban that scene from Life of Brian- been hearing those warnings for over twenty years now, and nobody has called for it.
Okay dude, whatever you say.
I have absolutely zero interest in having another pointless political pie fight in a thread about ‘Movies’ so sure, you’re absolutely right, and everyone ever mentioning a woke backlash about anything ever is totally wrong. I won’t believe my lying eyes. ![]()
Good one. That Ryan Gosling movie (Hail Mary) was fun but kind of like it was written by an algorithm which was fed better movies like Moon
Project Hail Mary
I liked it but wish it had explained more. Rocky’s composition, for instance. And the translation interface happened too fast for my taste. But I can understand that the producers must have been reluctant to extend something that already had a running time of more than two and half hours.
I’m guessing I need to read the book. But I’m glad I saw the movie on a big screen. I think it must work better that way than on a TV or, shudder, phone.
Hoppers
Mid-level Pixar, so not mind-blowing but still better than most things out there.
I think the market was more for fifth grade teachers to play to their kiddos in the lazy days of late June when testing is done. ![]()
So not so great? I’m hearing it’s good. My daughter wants to see Michael (about Michael Jackson). I would like to avoid that if possible.
That’s an easy call: Project Hail Mary is good. See it.
It’s not without some points, though, that might stress a young child. How old is your daughter?
College. My son is in junior high school, though.
No worries then.
Although I haven’t seen Michael and have no interest in doing so, I’m pretty confident that Project Hail Mary is a much better movie. As to which would be more enjoyable if one doesn’t think too much about what has been whitewashed out of Michael, that’s a matter of personal taste. ![]()
