What music are you listening to? (music edition)

@TT mentioned Zakir Hussain in the dead people thread. I cannot find the song that really touched me from a collaboration.

Mr Brightside is supposedly the most streamed song and been on the charts the longest of any song in the UK

Hmm, kinda boring emo. The video is slick though.

The Killers are pretty big. You’ve never heard of Las Vegas’ greatest native band?

Recent state poll results this past couple of months:

New Jersey - tied Springsteen/Sinatra/Patti Smith (ugh), but it was all down to one poster who admitted that he only voted for those last two because he didn’t want to see that overrated bloated hack Bruce win. I cried election interference and accused him of being a Russian agent.

New England (bar Massachusetts, for obvious reasons) - Some geeky Rhode Island School of Design dropouts won. Oh well, same as it ever was. Shockingly, the composer of “Expose Yourself To Kids,” a Mr. Jesus Christ Allin, took the #2 spot. I bet GG has a shit-eating grin in hell, and I do mean that literally.

For Tennessee, I had to split it into 3 separate polls.

Sun Records - Johnny Cash (an Arkie, beating out Elvis, a Mudfoot)

Stax/Volt - Otis Redding (was there any other choice? I love Sam & Dave and “Walking the Dog,” is a great song, but this is a no-brainer)

Rock artist that is none of the above - #1 Record with a Chilton. This was pretty overwhelming. (and yes, I know that technically Big Star were on Stax/Volt, but they hardly fitted in that scene.) At least it wasn’t Jay Reatard (whom I like, kinda…need to listen more). And thankfully not a single vote was cast for Kings of Leon, who based on their radio hits, are bloody godawful, or however you say that in Appalachian. Seriously, “Sex On Fire,” is a single entendre that would make AC/DC blush. #2 was Nut Bush City native Tina - damn, that woman was all that.

We got both kinds - Country and Western. Well, we all know Dolly would win this, anyway. And no, I ain’t Jolene!

Heard of, sure, just not really impressed.

The best band ever from Rhode Island, as if there’s a lot of competion, are funnily enough, the whitest, nerdiest, middle class, overeducated band ever, Greatest band from New England, no contesto, as they say to their illegal servants.

On the other hand, you have GG + the MC5. Tough call!

What’s funny about Dolly’s biggest hit is that in 1980 this sort of white-collar office job was alien to most Appalachian/Ozark/Ouachita Americans, who were miners or farmers. She was talking about sexual harassment when that was a no-go.

Shit. Ain’t this man preaching the truth.

Poetic

I’ll see your Fatboy Slim and raise you Matmos
