What music are you listening to? (music edition)

You know, classic soul is a very regional thing. You have peppy, overcaffeinated Motown, gritty, muddy glorious mono Memphis, jazzy Creole Memphis, stylish Harlem Cotton Club soul…but I tend to gravitate towards smooth, MOR, yacht-rock Philly Soul. There goes my hipster cred! That’s just the '70s black mainstream shit I grew up on as a kid. My kid brother, only a couple of years younger than me, is a Prince fanatic who regularly plays his 80s stuff in his bar band.

Oasis, Oasis and more Oasis.

Really digging Halford’s new boomer look.

She’s Gone is one of my favorite Hall & Oats songs. And many good songs from the performance at the Old Grey Whistle Test.

More Bill McClintock genius…

And another mashup artist…

Cool psychedelic neo-prog…

I’ve been thinking of this song a lot lately.
Humans seem to have stupidity on repeat

(Sorry no YouTube link it seems)

Wow, what a show

Was just watching clips from that. Everybody sounded great except for Steven Tyler…voice is totally shot.

I haven’t seen anything with ST yet, but 2 clips with Billy Corgan were awful. His voice kinda suits his music, but the covers were terrible

A lady (and her daughter) at my gym went to the Black Sabbath concert. I’ll have to ask her about it when she gets back.

I used to keep a wad of cash back just for these kind of boomer shows after the surprise (to me) Led Zeppelin O2 reunion twenty (or so) years ago in London. Really regret missing that show. I think that’s the only show I would have used it on since, though.

I like Black Sabbath but not enough to drop everything and fly to the UK. That said, back in the day covers of Crazy Train, a reliable bring-down-the-house encore song, were a lot of fun.

It wasn’t just Black Sabbath

Yeah, he sounded really whiney. Totally mangled Breaking the Law. I’ve liked him in the past, but something was a bit off. May just be out of practice. Morello was in top form though.

You can see him enjoying Tool from the side of the stage, in addition to playing something with their drummer later

I mean, it depends. The only act there that really holds my interest in 2025 is Gojira, and theirs was a short list.

I like most of the acts, but not enough to fly to Birmingham, fight the crowds, fly back, etc.

I’ve never seen Slayer, Tool, or Metallica. Other interesting musicians there.

But yeah, the crowds. Fuck that noise.
