Alex Lifeson will always be my favorite guitar player, but for me that band’s a lot like Iron Maiden. I WORSHIPED them when I was in my teens, but several decades later I find them hard to listen to. I still love the first albums by both bands, but after that point I can only take them in small doses. Rush especially.

But maybe I can’t talk because I’ve been listening to a lot of Styx recently. I know it’s terrible, but my daughter likes their hits. Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto?

I’ve always been a fan as well. They are similar to Maiden in some ways really. If prog and metal are next to each other on the map, they’re next door neighbors. I wasn’t as big of a Maiden fan, but I like some of their stuff, you can guess I’m sure, and still do. I’ve actually been getting into the synthesizer era Rush a lot more lately, always liked the old stuff more (outside of the obvious big hits from the synth era). Those two tracks I posted really mark the dividing line between those two eras really clearly, last track and first track on neighboring albums.

Rush’s synth era > Iron Maiden’s synth era at least. Some of those songs off Seventh Son of a Seventh Son really make me cringe now.
