What song was #1 on your birthday?

thisdayinmusic.com/cont/choose.html

“Keep On Truckin’” by Eddie Kendricks was #1 on the U.S. charts when I first squeaked out into the world

Which incidentally is an awesome early '70s funk groove. Whew! I was worried I’d get some horrible Gary Glitter tune or something instead…which I did, on the U.K. charts. But since I’m not British, I’m just going to ignore that one.

I Don’t Like Mondays by the Boomtown Rats (UK charts) and Good Times by Chic (US charts). Please don’t tell me that some of you listened to these songs as teenagers…

edit:

My little sister had some classics on her birthday - Don’t Stand So Close by the Police on the UK charts and Another One Bites the Dust by Queen on the US charts. Figures.

U.S. chart: “Big Hunk O’Love” by Elvis Presley. Hmm.

U.K. chart: Oh my God…“Living Doll” by Cliff Richard and the Drifters. That is one of my all-time most hated songs! And is Cliff Richard still the same homophobe he used to be?

I got Carolina Moon/Stupid Cupid by Connie Francis in the UK chart, It’s All in the Game by Tommy Edwards in the US.

Will You Love Me Tomorrow? by
The Shirelles
Actually, I have heard of this song but never the group. I was wishing for something by the Stones or Beatles.

Are You Lonesome Tonight? by
Elvis Presley (UK charts)

Not so bad.

in UK…“Strangers in the night”
in US “Paint it black”

interesting cross-atlantic switch up…and two damn fine tunes by two seminal acts to herald the bear into the world

:beatnik:

I wasn’t born yesterday, so I didn’t send them my e-mail address. Besides, I think Edison had yet to invent the phonograph.

Don’t worry, you can put in any old address like blobbygreenfella@martianheadquarters.mil and select the “no e-mail” option. Your number one records will still be served up when you click. I hope yours are better than mine!

the U.K. No.1 on the 19th April 1976 was… Save Your Kisses For Me by
The Brotherhood Of Man

the U.S. No.1 on the 19th April 1976 was… Disco Lady by
Johnnie Taylor

I bet some of you were older than I am now when those came out.

I taught ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’ to my students lask week.

Groovin’ - The Young Rascals
Silence is Golden - The Tremeloes

Love Lettters in the Sand by Pat Boone in the US and
Yes Tonight, Josephine by Johnnie Ray in the UK

Oh, the shame!

Thanks, Juba.

I Can See Clearly Now by Johnny Nash in America and Take me back 'ome by Slade in the UK. Wow, I was destined to rock!!!

Flashdance… What a Feeling by Irene Cara

who… wha…? o.O

anyways, i hope no one uses yes@ofcourse.com as their e-mail address :stuck_out_tongue:

I had that Chic album. God you are young. Another One Bites the Dust totally ripped off Good Times.

At least your song wasn’t Love Theme from Romeo & Juliet (US) and The Ballad of John & Yoko (UK).

Wow, UK: “Ticket to Ride” by The Beatles, cool!

But US: “I’m Telling You Now” by Freddie & the Dreamers, never heard of them but sounds like the band Kerry allegedly played bass in when he was in Uni … :astonished:

Freddie and the Dreamers were my favorite group when I was 4 years old. I remember watching them on telly in black and white on that predecessor to Top of the Pops. I think it was called 5-4-3-2-1. I don’t remember what their music sounded like - just that I liked it. Yes, I am a little long in the tooth, though not as long as :bluemad:

UK - (I’d like to teach the world to sing) in perfect harmony - The New Seekers (odd, I’m tone deaf! )

US - Brand New Key by Melanie never heard it!
