What would you do if an invasion from China became imminent?
Escape!
Fight!
Get to a bomb shelter.
Do nothing.

Let’s say that President Chen declares Taiwanese independence, and China vows to take military action in response, advising all foreign nationals to leave Taiwan immediately. The United States condemns Taiwan’s unilateral action, and announces that it will not interfere. The US does release intelligence reports about massive Chinese troop and vehicle movement, etc., confirming that an invasion is imminent. What do you do?
This is just a thought experiment. If you want to discuss the actual likelihood of this happening, please do so in rahimiii’s thread.
Vancouver’s a great city. I don’t get to go back often enough.
I certainly wouldn’t stay at my apartment. Too close to a major target. Luckily, my office at my morning job is half the size of my apartment, and out of the way. If I weren’t gone, I’d likely be there.
Once you have kids, your perspective changes radically. I would do anything to keep mine out of harm’s way - heading back to Canada would be the only option.
An invasion might spark one. I think Tempo Gain means that there would be a coup and the new government would basically beg China not to invade. “See? It was just this guy. No need to conquer us.” But in the hypothetical I have posed, the Chinese military has already mobilized and the US has given its tacit acceptance by declaring that it will not interfere. I doubt China would pass up the opportunity to reclaim Taiwan.
I read an si-fi fiction (of course by a mainland writer), actually very short fiction, it says in the future, one day , the pro-dependant President try to declear formal independance of Taiwan, a coup happens, since the army is still secretly controlled by KMT…sigh, does that sound ridiculous in Taiwan?
I never want to fight with China just because some politicans’ greedy and corrupt.
If they have no ability to look for the peace for their people, then have themselves to fight with China.
I don’t want my kids fight for those moron. :raspberry:
I’d send a very polite and apologetic PM to glockmeister, TC and spook enquiring if they had any of those oddly shaped force multipliers laying around.
Once I received one of those, I’d clip it on my key chain, slip it into my back pocket and smile smugly and patiently while waiting for the PLA arrival.

Didn’t the general resign and the re-elected president declared he survive a coup in reality?
Taiwan, where reality is stranger than fiction…
Don’t kid yerseffs, fellers. How many of you ARE actually on your respective embassy’s (for lack of a better word) emergency evacuation list? And even if you are, why do you even SUPPOSE your respective embassy will have sufficient seats on aircraft or oceangoing vessels at their disposal? Cos, y’see, said aircraft and vessels will be CRAMMED with Taiwanese nationals with enough cash and guanxi to fly out their extended families plus their pets. So forget about running. Swimming is more likely.
Me, I did the right thing years ago - bought a little house in the countryside, far away from any military installation, where I’m gonna sit it all out…
