Whatever happened to all of the reporters from the good old days of the China (now Taiwan) News
Jay Speiden, Ann Gavagahn, Ian Lamont, Phelim Kyne, Mahlon Mayer, Henry Hoenig, Mike McLendon, and so on? Where are they now? What are they doing? Are they still in Asia?
Jay worked at the Taipei Times for a while, but went back to the US, I believe. Phelim went to work in Cambodia. Mahlon works for Newsweek in Hong Kong. I think you mean Mike Clendenin, who never worked for the China News and would probably not like to discuss his transition out of the Taipei Times.
Ian Lamont left Taiwan several years ago. He’s just put up a website that is obviously still under construction.
I saw Ann’s name on the masthead of a local magazine not too long ago. I don’t remember which one. Maybe it was something put out by the Taipei City Government. I wish she’d write some more; I always liked reading her work.
Are any of them still working as reporters? Or is it just something that they did here. I thought Jay Speiden wrote interesting articles - at the Taiwan News and at the Taipei Times) - is he working as a reporter in the USA? Insider, please do tell us the story of why Mike left (or was forced to leave) the Taipei Times.
Ann Gavaghan, according to her uncle - who’s a missionary in Taihung - is doing a PhD in New York City, and lots of voluntary work. I’ve seen her name in Discover Taipei Bimonthly. I guess she submits by e-mail…
Whatever happened to gangster-politician-pugilist Lo Fu-chu? Remember him, he’s the one who pummeled PFP loony Diane Lee in the head for all the world to see. It obviously did some brain damage to Lee as she later accused the health minister of licking some guy’s ear, but that’s another stroy.
So does anyone know what Lo’s doing now? In jail? In the legislature? In Cambodia?
Liberia, ideally. Then he and Charles Taylor could have pissing ccontests as to who was the biggest thug, or who bilked the Taiwanese taxpayer out of the most amount of money…
He’s alive and kicking. Large as llife and still three times as nasty. Out of politics, running his, ahem, “businesses,” attending court hearings that are unlikely to be resolved before his death. Life seems pretty sweet for that scumsucking pigfucker.
Oops, did I really say “out of politics?” What I meant to say, of course, is “claims to be out of politics.” Which just means he’s been reduced to buying influence from other pugfuckers still in the legislature. Poor guy.
God it took ages for anyone to actually notice.
How are you Paul?
