Argggh! There are soooo many image hosting sites out there. Which ones are considered the best?
I have some pics on Yahoo photos but it doesn’t allow you to put much text with each picture so this is a very important feature for me.
I’ve spent ages searching around for the best home for my pictures with words. Photobucket.com is totally free but doesn’t seem to allow for any text at all. Fotki.com’s layout seems a bit confused but maybe that’s cuz I’m a newbie. Fotop.net looks great but doesn’t appear to allow for text.
I don’t mind spending around US$20 - 30 a year as long as its a good site and won’t just disappear overnight. By the way, shimmertje (spelling?) and acearle, I love your pictures! You’ve given me plenty of ideas. ACEarle, how much text does fotopic.net let you put with each picture?
Anyone else out there got pics online? I’d love to see them. Thanks all.
THANKS, GRAYSON!. Yahoo photos allows captions too, which are essential really, but only about two short sentences.
Is there a limit on the number of words you can put in a caption at imagestation? For some pictures I’d like to put more description, say up to 75 words. Is that possible at imagestation?
Rich, I got an error when I followed the link because I’m not the owner of the album.
The best way is just to pay the $60 to ICD, and get your own domain with all the space you can ever use. Then just build your own site. You can stop using hotmail etc as well then.
I don’t know. I’ve usually only put 2-3 sentences at the most. I prefer short captions.
Downside is that anyone that wants to view the album has to register with the website. It’s free, but I know some have a thing about registering.
Imagestation.com is by Sony. There’s a small clause that says any pics that are posted can be used by Sony. It’s a free website afterall. With apparently no limit of albums/space. Personally don’t really care. It’s not like I’m gonna post some stuff that would cause a real stir anyways. If Sony wants to post a copy of me being drunk off my butt. Heck, go for it.
They just better let me know so i can get a good laugh about it too.
The opening screen… first page. You can type in the description about the entire album. Choose the first/album pic.
Oh yea, they also allow you to drop and drag. You have to install the program (ad/spy free - ad-aware scanned) which then allows you to select your files from Windows Explorer and then drag them to the “target” spot on the imagestation website. The program does the rest. It’s handy when I want to upload over 100 pics (e.g. farewell parties)
Oh, lastly, you can upload video. It has to be in mpg format. Which meant for me that Ihad to download and install the Morgan MJPEG decoder to re-encode my vid files take with my Canon s400 dig cam. It was handy for those times when we attempted to play charades. You get the gist.
I’ve used a few other ones. Ofoto, Shutterfly, etc. Imagestation had the best interface and options. But that’s me. I’m too lazy to register a website and code it all up myself. That and if my friends who view the album want pics, they can order directly from imagestation. Hasn’t happened yet, but I always like having that for them. If nothing else they can download a copy of the pic from the site. It’s all about my convenience.
Rascal - three month time limit on albums? No offence but what use is that to anyone?
I liked your pics Richard M. Your children are so… Gordzwee!
Imagestation does seem good. But, and it’s a big BUTT, as you mention, the only bummer is visitors having to register to view albums. I think plenty of people wouldn’t be bothered to go through the registration thing, and would feel annoyed doing so just to view some pics.
Fotki is looking better all the time.
I’ve since come across XPphotoalbum, which seems like a sensible no nonsense place for pics. They don’t try and flog prints all the time and there’s none of this ‘become a premium member and we won’t delete your pictures’ crap.
You might be interested to check out these albums / travel articles about Taiwan atWorldisRound. The travel section in this site is free but you can’t really arrange albums like you can at other sites. Not a ‘true’ personal online album site like fotki etc, but might appeal to some.
Imagestation does have the advantage of allowing videos to be uploaded. I didn’t like going through registering for Imagestation but I did it. The problem was that I couldn’t remember my password after that…there may be a cookie but I was on a totally new computer.
Grayson, I believe most photo sites allow you to upload in batches. Fotki and Webshots both do though both programs seem to encounter problems occasionally. Fotki used to hang regularly when we used Hinet’s ADSL, but hasn’t done so since we switched to Giga. Webshots’ software plain hangs for no reason.
I love shutterfly. I have so many pics on there it is ridiculous. Even made a calendar for a friend. But that was the only time I paid anything. Check out the above album I have of Taitung.
Update: Have recently discovered that Webshots has changed its tune from 60 albums, max. 60 pics per album for paying members. It is now 150 albums, max. 100 pics per album. There is just ONE little catch… you can only have a max. of 3000 pics overall. It’s still better than it used to be!
I have just put some pictures (not photos I’ve taken) up on photobucket.com and I was pleasantly surprised by the speed with which you can upload images. Six pics in one go takes no time at all. Compare that with yahoo photos which takes ages.
Has anyone else noticed a difference between sites with regard to upload time?
About the time limit: I use Clubphoto com, like it very much. For the first two albums, I was notified shortly before they expired, just edited a little, and the albums stayed on for three more months. Did that for some more albums. Now, I don’t get any notifications anymore, and none of my albums has ever expired. I have loads of pictures on there (but nothing compared to you guys, obviously I never figured out if they have a limit. They have paying options, loads of additional functions and tools for faster upload, too.
PM me if you want more information or the link to my albums.
If you’re fairly comfortable with web technology, buy web hosting and set up your own using Gallery(free photo album software). It’s well worth the $60-$70 you’ll spend. You get your own domain, email addresses, web space, and freedom to do whatever you want with it.
if you wanna have free space to upload your photo with text . Please search this term (DigiPhoto Gallery) at the search engine at yahoo or google > it is a software, you can download its trial version. The crack also is avaiable, please search.
Recently I’ve just been using blogger to show off my new photos to friends and family.
Blogger now has a neat new feature called ‘Hello’, a program which allows you to upload pics from your pc.
New pics go in at the top, and, of course, you can add as much text as you like with links etc.
