Whats the best way to get hard in a hurry?

I was wondering what suggestions people had for losing the baby fat. I’m not really a fat bastard but i won’t be featured in a music video anytime soon for obvious reasons. Also what is a realistic time frame for losing a kg or two or three. :unamused: Probably being able to set a realistic goal and work within a structured time frame would help.

Oops, sorry, I was thinking something else. :wanker:

Looks like we have a new winner for “Most misleading thread title ever”. :stuck_out_tongue:

spend a week in the hospital with food poisoning?

Buy a knife!

Viagra?

You guys are mean! A new guy comes to us with a legitimate request for fitness tips and you just make jokes. I don’t even understand what you’re talking about.

(Can’t help. I have a slight ‘baby fat’ issue also. Ahem.)

Seriously, there are no secrets. It just takes discipline, committment and common sense.

Diet

Make an extremely serious effort to cut all crap out of your diet. Zero McDonalds, Burger King, Starbucks lattes and pastries, pizza, fried chicken, cookies, cakes, candy, etc.

No more fried, oily foods. Instead, look for baked, boiled, steamed.

Don’t starve yourself completely, not a total fast, but instead eat healthy foods including lots and lots of fresh fruits and raw vegetables. Fruit for breakfast every day, fruit for an afternoon or evening snack if you must have something. A big salad as often as possible for lunch or dinner.

Aerobic Excercise

Absolutely essential if you really want to trim down, to burn fat, to use more calories than you consume. Walking around the block after work or up the stairs is good, but it’s not enough. If you really want to make progress, you need to get the heart and lungs really working for over a half hour (preferably longer) at least three times a week. You need to work up a sweat. A good vigorous bike ride – not moseying along, but really pushing yourself – is great and Taipei has lots of great riverside bike paths. Jogging or swimming will also work, or steppers, etc in the gym.

Weights/Sit-Ups

Join a gym. It’s easy to firm up your muscles all around even with just 45 minutes in the gym three days a week. Of course longer is better, and — NO EXCUSES: you must do ab excercises every workout. Situps, crunches, leg raises, whatever, but just do them.

I guarantee if you stick with a simple plan like that you’ll be pleased with the results in no time. As for your time-frame, I would think losing 1 - 2kg per week is perfectly reasonable if you’re doing all of the above. Good luck.

Works for me.

Cut out the beer.

Also, swimming doesn’t work for everyone. Some bodies have been known to actually ADD fat.

In fact it’s important to remember that all bodies are different and therefore different approaches work better for some people than for others. That said, Mother Theresa’s advice is good.

I got a personal trainer to kick my ass and push me much more than I would push myself. Feels like I am some kind of professional athlete in training with combinations of cardio training like sprints, lunges, jumping and really tough weight lifting and ab workouts.

You have to realize what you want and what you will give up to get it. I had to give up all sweets and seriously limit any alcohol intake and no carbs for dinner (lunch OK).

If you can’t push yourself beyond the points of pain, soreness and total exhaustion and shortness of breath, then I urge you to give up one more thing, and that is some money and get yourself a personal trainer. After 9 months I am in the best shape of my life and bulking up too. Cost a lot of money though, but for your health it is worth it.

PS: You could instead start a new hobby of physical activity like biking, jogging, hiking, basketball, tennis, soccer and so on, or even better do it in combination with a personal trainer and you will be hard in no time.

I lost a few pant sizes by walking for 90 mins a day back home. Am worried now since coming to Taiwan because I cant see anywhere where I could do this without dodging scooters/traffic…

At home I had a treadmill which made it easier… Are they cheap here?

In Taichung my parents go hiking or swimming every morning, so I am hoping to tag along and start exercising every day again…

How much did that personal trainer cost?

Personal trainer at the place I work out is between NT$1500 an hour to NT$1800 an hour. I use mine for 2 hours a week and work out 4 other hours on my own. The money is totally worth it. I had the discipline to quit smoking on my own, but not to work out the way my coach works me. He also checks up on me and makes sure I work out on my own durin the week as well. Also, he is an expert at what he does totally knowledgeable and capable and come up with more variety and different muscle groups etc, that I didn’t repeat any exercises in about the first 3 months. Really amazing, and I was rarely ever sore because of proper stretching that he makes me do.

Take the staircase instead of the elevator. Depending on where you live or work, that can be good exercise (and for free). Not so recommendable during summer since the staircases are normally not airconditioned, but in the winter it’s OK. Did that once for a couple of weeks when I lived on 32nd floor. Down is easy, up is haaard!

For a second I thought I had clicked myself into the dating and realationship forum

Why do you want to get hard and how hard?

If it’s a special event you are going for then drink lots off water. This will make the body change water more often. Once you stop drinking water the body nead time to adjust to les water and water in the fat recerves around your body will get smaler and you will look bether. Mucles will be more visible.

I have to say that I posted the original message in a hurry and while sitting in the office I work in lamenting the fact that i can’t fit my 32 inch waist pants anymore. when I saw the responses I burst out loud laughing and got some rather inquiring stares.

Started my exercise regime today here in Taichung with my friends father. Man… that guy is FIT for a 60 year old. I had to work hard to keep up with him

Up at 5am, then went to a pretty hilltop park in Shalu

Walked for 50 minutes and then drove to a pool complex and sat in the sauna for a while and practised speaking my (bad) Chinese to some old guys there, who were very friendly (and seemed fascinated by my shrivelled genitalia) :s

Then a few laps of the pool. I havent gone swimming for years and years and I really suck at it :frowning: But I sort of dog paddled and breast stroked my way up and down a few times…

They had a weird massage type thing where water is dropped from high above and you stand under it. Pounded my back and shoulders for a minute or so… Ouch but refreshing after my walk/swim

I guess if I do this every morning I will notice some results after a while… Now just have to say ‘Boo yao’ to all of the fried chicken and other tasty (?) street food here
