I did a search for this but the only relevant thread that I could find became a discussion about getting credit cards. The original question remained unanswered.
So can anyone tell me, what is the best way to send money home:
a) TT it from my bank account here
b) use my ATM card from my bank here and just withdraw it from my account when I go home (assuming that my account has Cirrus or Maestro)
c) take it in cash and change it into my home currency
I currently use TT’s, but as I am planning a trip home soon I was wondering whether I should TT the money home to be there when I get there, or whether I should take it with me.
If I were to take it with me, where can you get the best rate for foreign currency:
a) my bank here
b) the airport in Taiwan
c) the airport back home
d) my bank back home
I would appreciate any input anyone has on this. I have already received some advice to investigate the ATM system and will do this, but am wondering what others think.
IMO it depends on the amount of money: If you just need a small amount for a holiday back home then cash or ATM withdrawal would be ok, but if you want to transfer your savings to your home country (bigger sums) then TT is the better option.
The best if you transfer a big sum is what Rascal said. The fee is the same regardless of the amount transfered. I send money home every few months only so I pay less in transfer fees. When I go home I just use my Canadian atm card. I recommend transferring funds into your account(back home) and withdrawing from there. Have a good trip!

I suggest that in your case hatch you take the money yourself along with a one way ticket off this island you have chosen to pollute. Other than that TT is the correct way.

Broon, responding to poster not to post. Hatch needs a chance to dig himself out of a hole. This post is ok.
I generally use travlers checks. Be sure to follow the instructions regarding safe guarding or they won’t refund your money if they are lost.
I bought some and had my wife signed them and then we promptly lost them ( we found them later) Because I bought them and my wife signed them they were not going to be refunded(so they said)
You also get a better exchange rate when using TT’s.
Banks in america never or almost never charge for cashing TT’s but they have tried to charge 3% here in taiwan.
