Taiwanese tend not to regard occupations that involve physical activity that highly, for instance athletes and soldiers. For some reason cops are different.
Iām just saying the way any random Doofus on a scooter feels entitled to scream in the face of the cop ticketing them would seem to indicate cops are not super highly regarded here.
Highly regarded vs. unable/unwilling to do anything can be two sides of the same coin.
People seem to respect the profession, but cops are spineless here. Yet somehow violent crime isnāt a big deal. Employers being shit and stealing wages? Sure. Embezzlement? Absolutely. Gangs doing all matter of murdering, etc. and often including members of the governemnt? You bet. Randomly being attacked on the street or having things stolen by someone you donāt know? Shockingly unlikely, especially when you consider the incompetence of the po-pos.
Your wrong. Soldiery is highly regarded as a job (as a career)here in Kao City by locals where there is big Naval port and base. Some wealthy people do look down at Soldiery, but I more look down at men that did not serve.
