Pretty good article in yesterday’s Salon on the 20th anniversary of one of the greatest albums of the '80s.
My favorite:

Tears for Fears

Hall & Oates

Bruce Springsteen

Big Country

That album was released in 1975.

I know.
I listened a lot of Bruce Springsteen’s albums when I was in my teen age (around 80’s)
And “Born to Run” happened to be the album I like when I was in 80’s.
So it’s 80’s music to me.
Split Enz
By the way, I think 王非 copies a lot from the Cocteau Twins

All of the above (except A-ha), as well as:
The Smiths
The The
The Cure
The Jazz Butcher
Talking Heads
Soft Cell
Echo and The Bunnymen
So, whose going to fess up and mention Duran Duran?

Me. And you added the ones not on the top of my head. Accept the Jazz Butchers; don’t know them.
Simple Minds, Dire Straits, Queen, Little River Band, Genesis, A big Country, Neil Diamond, ELO, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye
I just bought a nightmarket copy of Duran Duran’s greatest hits. Never thought they were crap until they did that song Notorious and I totally lost interest. Most of the eighties bands I like are still going strong. I think it would be easier for me to list the defunct ones I liked.
The Alarm
The Clash(yeah I know but that’s one I discovered 'em)
P.I.L (think they may be still going)
Motley Crue
The Smiths
The Comsat Angels
The The (Were they really a band or just Matt Johnson?)
The Psychedelic Furs
Madness
The Police (80’s?)
Dead Kennedys
i just got home from seeing the cure do a 3 hour show downtown… simply amazing.
can’t say that they are my favorite 80’s band, but they certainly are up there on my list
I’m downloading Rod Stewart’s ‘Do Ya Think I’m Sexy’ video from Kazaa. OK, so it’s 1978, but that’s even better. I’m looking at this woman in the video… She looks like a guy… It’s funny… Rod’s actually more attractive than she is. He’s so cute dancing around in his leather pants with his cute little butt…don’t get me wrong… but I love his hair… What’s he doing in that video with that mom?..
I love the main riff for ‘Do Ya Think I’m Sexy’. I’ve heard that Rod actually ripped it off from Jorge Ben Jor - the Brazilian rock star who wrote the song ‘Umbaparauma- homem goal’ (made famous by David Byrne with a video about Brazilian rain forests, but actually song is about a soccer player who kicks a goal). Jorge Ben Jor’s original song was called ‘Taj Mahal’.
Oh, another one is ‘Cars’ by Gary Numan. That was actually 1979, but it was the dawn of 80’s pop… There was a remake done of ‘Cars’ by a heavy metal band ‘Fear Factory’. It’s a rocking song, too. Both video’s are really cool.
Not my favorite. Some YouTube surfing brought me to these songs.
Edit: That Boston song is from the 70s? More than just feels so 80s.
Shooting heroin helped me off the booze.
This ain’t no party, this ain’t no disco, this ain’t no foolin’ aruond.
Fear of Music left an indelible mark on me as a little one.
the movie Stop Making Sense is so epic too
here’s one
you had to be there…
The Pretenders. The ooh-aah has a Taiwanese aboriginal vibe, at least for me.
another tragic band
Chrissie Hynde crush won’t fade away. I’m a bad boy, spank me!
