Watching the telly the other night, I saw what I consider to be my current favourite local commercial.
I believe that the ad is for Pert shampoo and it shows a young woman on an airplane with her parents. At one point the woman’s mother whispers to her that her father is afraid of flying, the girl seems to immediately come up with a solution to dispel his anxiety(unfortunately without the old lightbulb-over-the-head image), she shows her father how her headphones can slide down her silky smooth hair, presumabely with the help of Pert, and her father finds such merry jest in this that his fear of flying seems to disappear. The xiaojie then goes on to affect several very cute facial expressions and all seems to be well and good for the duraton of the flight.
This is but one of many great ads I’ve seen on t.v. here. Let’s face it, most advertising everywhere is retarded, but here it seems to be more fun.
Anyone else have any favs?
From World Cup 2002, a classic! Almost made me go out and buy that liver supplement he’s pushing.

I left Taiwan at the beginning of last year, but still everytime I see a 7-11 the words ‘7-11 zhen hao’ go through my head.
Actually since arriving in Canada (I’m from England) I’ve found the commercials to be the funniest thing on TV. certainly funnier than the comedy channel anyway, which seems to be stuck in the 1970s.
I like the “Scottish Restaurant” ad. where the cute guy gets in the lift, the overweight buzzer goes off and one girl quickly pushes her girlfriend out so she can be with cutie guy. Bitch!
Scottish restaurant? I wouldn’t have thought there was much demand for haggis anywhere in the world, never mind Taiwan.
There’s this recent Watson’s commercial where one person on the street sees someone doing something and it reminds them to get something, like a mother sees a jogger joggging by and that reminds her to get vitamins. They do a couple more, but it ends with this very cute 20-year-old-looking and almost certainly unmarried xiaojie seeing this mother pushing a stroller down the street and that reminds her to get some condoms. Seems fairly risque given local attitudes towards pre-maritial sex.
Great topic!!! the KFC one’s where everyone is throwing a fit cause their chicken aint KFC :bravo:
I love these too. Especially the prisoner on death row.
There are some out promoting the marathon at the moment. This (I suppose desireable) guy is phoning girls for a date, the time coincides with the marathon.
He gets several refusals from pretty girls. As a last resort the guy phones a fat ugly girl who is immediately charmed that she has been aked out by the chap. She agrees.
She asks what time. It’s obviously the time that the marathon is on. She immediately refuses - her expression is priceless.
Its funnier to watch than it is to read about and its also in chinese - but hey.
I agree with the last two. That airplane Pert ad annoys me beyond belief. It’s just so stupid.
I also kind of like the shitty ads that they illegally (?) hijack into the cable broadcasts, advertising furniture stores and stuff. They’re just so unashamedly crap.

Reference to McDonalds.
Wu Bai’s Hei-Song sarsparella commercial where he’s singing “Chong Chong Chong” on a rooftop and in the desert while flapping some big black wings on his arms.
Yuki’s 1998 Kymco Going commercial. Red…hot…PANTS! (I realize I’ve talked about this commercial in another thread, but damn…those red hot pants…those who still want to see the commercial can find it as the video for the song “5,6,7,8 going” at yer local Cashbox).
Do the illegal local KTV commercials that cut into my Shark Week shows on Discovery Channel count?
I hate them all, whether here or back home. Period!
My daughter, who is all of 1 year 10 months is already singing along to the Lili furniture ads.
:s
:help: :loco:
My personal fave is the singing cold med guy. “gan mao, yong si si, Ke sou yong si si…”
And then there are the “Pinky” candy ads.
I liked that ad with the daughter taking that bath and puts some bubbles on the fathers head and says: “爸爸的頭髮怎麼這麼少?” How/Why are you going bald (or something, I know what it means, but lack translation skills)
I also like the Qoo commercial that goes:
Q O O 好想要喝一口. 酸酸甜甜. and then something I’ve never caught.
Other then those 2 there was a Coca Cola commercial I was in. I’d always get all excited when that one came on.
Two girls get on a bus and they are talking and then the bus stops and everybody runs off the bus in a panic. I don’t know what it’s about, but it’s pretty funny.
It’s for a bank card - “Still using your ATM card? You must be crazy!”
That Sk-2 girl who is apparently so beautiful (or so SK2 would have us believe) is about as vacant as they come. She also has that evil-behind-the-smile quality like Nicole Kidman.
My personal favorite right now is the Yo Yo TV girl jumping up and down on pudding and then dancing around in a pudding skirt.
Though, Jolene’s ‘wring-out-the-dishtowel’ song and dance routine for McDonalds is a contender as well. You can’t beat true artistry!
The new ad for some scooter where a guy has to dodge a missile is quite cute.
My students have told me that it’s for one of the “cash cards” like George and Mary. The idea is that the women are talking about how great they are and everyone thinks they’re crazy because the interest rates on those cards is so high.
