Ah, you must be under 35 then. Give it a few years, at the point when you have to increase the text size on your phone because no matter where you are, the “light is always bad in here”, then suddenly WhatsApp will be much more convenient
I’m not. I prefer WhatsApp, but I need to use Line in Taiwan unless I want to talk to myself.
You must have the iPhone Mini. You can increase the universal text size on your phone.
So, I deleted the app from my new tw phone and from my previous ny phone.
Dl it again on new tw phone.
I tried to verify using the old NY # and it worked but of course I can’t get the text code because we’ve discontinued that number.
When I put in the new tw # the 886 followed by the ten digit number, nada.
What am I doing wrong?
If you no longer have access to your NY number, then you may just have to create a new account with your TW number. Is that what you’re trying to do?
Yes.
886
0
Nine digit #
Try to verify, and that’s as far as it goes.
Have you tried without the 0?
BTW, do you still have WhatsApp logged in on your old phone? If so, there is a “Change Number” option in Settings. It will migrate your account to your new phone. Your new phone will need to be able to receive text messages for the confirmation, but not your old phone. You should try that first.
Yes. Same result.
Asks me of this is my number. I say yes.
White screen. Back to verification screen.
Change the number on the OLD phone?
Yes. Whichever phone you still have WhatsApp access on. You need to initiate your account migration from that phone. Are you still logged in on your old phone?
I deleted the app.
If you want to keep using your old account, and associate that account with your new Taiwan number, then you need to initiate the migration process from your old phone. If you download the app again on your old phone, I wonder if you can log in without a verification text.
Trying that now. Thanks.
So it tries to send the code to the old number.
So no, I can’t open the app on the old phone.
Boo… Looks like you’ll have to create a new account with your Taiwan number on your new phone. Not sure why it won’t send the verification text though. Are there two different screens for log in and account creation? If so, just make sure you’re creating a new account and not logging in.
Otherwise the only other thing I can think to do is to just delete the app and download it again.
BTW you shouldn’t have a 0 when entering your TW number. My WhatsApp account phone number doesn’t have a 0. Just +886 9XX XXX XXX.
Yea, none of that is working.
The videos above are for switching to a new phone but not a new phone with a new number in a new country. And the fact that I deleted the app on the old phone when I got here after it stopped working probably doesn’t help.
I may go bother the phone lady where a bought the new phone and “practice my Chinese” until she does it for me. ![]()
Fucking hell. All the good endorphins i got my exercising today are gone!
I recently tried to sign in again to Whatsapp.
There was no English option for Taiwan phone numbers (+886).
Changed the app to Chinese, Taiwan showed up, signed in and changed the app back to English.
