One of my joys in life is to scour second-hand shops for video games but, sadly, Taipei isn’t very good for this as most video-game stores only sell new products. For whatever reason, there just aren’t many stores specialising in second-hand games there, as opposed to Tokyo which is prodigious.
That said, there are two (and only two that I’m aware of) areas that are reasonably good for second-hand games. First is Taipei City Mall, which was already mentioned. This whole area has an Akihabara vibe and is great for geeky stuff in general. The second is the area around Guang Hua Digital Plaza. From what I remember, Guang Hua itself isn’t good for games, but the area around it, including a nearby shopping mall which has an entire floor for video games, is good.
I have a Nintendo Switch Lite that I don’t use as often anymore. I bought it just last year, I think. It’s still in very good condition. I also have games to go along with it. Would you be interested to purchase it?
I also have a second hand Family Computer lol, I bought it from Taipei Main underground stores, the PC area. If you’re interested with that I can sell it as well haha.
Reason for selling is I’m often using the PS5 and PC for gaming.
I’ve had no success buying second hand anything at guanhua. They won’t even sell anything older than a couple of years, basically if it’s discontinued they don’t sell it.
You’re limited to Facebook groups, classified, or shopee/ruten/pchome. But as you discovered the used stuff isn’t a good value because it’s too expensive for what it is.
To the right of this ramen place is a second hand electronic store on the second floor. They have everything and over the years I’ve bought several items. All have lasted me for years.
Thanks for all the leads and insights! I now have a better understanding of the market here in Taiwan. Most of the places which you guys have mentioned are in Taipei. Are there places similar to those in Taichung?
Closest thing I can think of would be NOVA and the surrounding buildings here. NOVA is mostly new stuff but there are quite a few tech related stores around it which might have something to that effect. I’d suggest looking around there.
