hi, just wondering if any of you know where i can buy tampons with higher absobency like super or super plus…i went to watson’s but they sell only OB regular absorbency tampons and there are only 8 in a box! help!
Tien MU- Wellmans’ across from Jake’s
Tampons don’t seem to be very accepted in Taiwan. I hardly see any and as you said, only the small boxes, in plus they are pretty expensive. Bring your own next time…=)
Yea, and deoderant, too, if you’re the sweaty smelly type. I came over here with about a year’s supply of both. Was shopping for them late at night in my home town. Once I have my cart sufficently laden with tampons and deoderant, oh, yes, and yeast infection treatment____can’t get that here unless you make a dr. visit so you really HAVE to bring it. When up walks and ex and his totally hunk a lishis friend to say hi! “Wow, girl, what are you doing? Everything okay?”
You really don’t need those supers anyway. Might get toxic shock! Just use the OB regulars and change them more often if you need to or use a minipad. Taiwan has come a long way. We can now buy OBs in 7-11. I remember when it was pharmacy only.
Once I tried to buy some in Manila, and had to go to a pharmacy to get them, and they were sold individually! And the gal said, “Don’t you lose your virginity if you use these?” I had to laugh at that and say, “Well perhaps, but that’s long gone!” They may have a similar misconception here.
You can find deoderant at Watson (Nivea) and Adidas as well. Tampoons, someone told me that you can find them at Costco?? Is it true?
Never seen them at Costco. Watsons, some 7-11s, pharmacies, Welcome…that’s it.
deodorants yeah, you can buy’em in TAiwan, but there’s not really a big choice of them and most don’t smell that good…and…they are way toooooo expensive
Smells are okay if you are not too picky. I prefer the Old Spice or Gilette for Men but I think the price is about the same, around $5 US or less, but remember that taxes aren’t included.
Ppl in Taiwan needs to start using deodorants, if you are in a MRT or a bus at traffic hours, those stinky smells can kill you… So if you see an asian girl hiding in the corner of MRT, thats me!!
=) yeah, does actually anybody have a clue, why they are not used to using deodorants? I know guys, who think it’s only for girls or gays, but what about girls?
You can pick up Tampax brand tampons at a pharmacy on Shida Rd. The pharmacy is in between Heping and Roosevelt (closer to Roosevelt) on Shida. The pharmacy is on the same side as Watson’s and Welcome (closer to Welcome). I dunno if they have super, I bought regulars.
As for deodorant, a good tip is to go to a beauty supply store. They are all over the place and sell a wide variety of things (shampoos, bath stuff, make up, whatever). There is no recognizable chain store of this type. All mom and pop shops. Not only did I find deodorant, but I found invisible deodorant. Happy hunting .
Now THAT must have taken some doing . Did you just kind of feel your way around the shelves, or what?
I usually buy Boots own brand anti perspirant in Bangkok. Do they have Boots in Taipei and do they stock this brand? - I find it very effective even in 38 degrees!
You can find OB tampons (normal and mini, 16 in one pack) in the RT Mart. They also have Nivea deodorant!
tampons just in general aren’t accepted widespread use in Asia i think. The supermarket under 101 sells Tampax when I swung by and i believe in two kinds of absorbency, or you’ll have to use the reg O.B w/ applicators at Watson’s, Cosmead. I checked in Costco a month ago for those big ass boxes of tampons and did not find them (end up buying my bulk in America Costco).
Yes there is a BOOTS store in Taipei not sure about their brands of deodorant though.
As for why no deodorant… i don’t think people in Taiwan for the mass crowds smell as bad as a mass sweaty crowd smells in America. The stinky smells is not usually really the “kill me B.O” but just nasty sweaty sweat humid clothes smell. You don’t usually smell one individual that’s just super stinky, it’s often just the overwhelming sweat of the masses (a.k.a just too many friggin’ sweaty people in horrid humid) that produces stench.
my mom used to ask me why i used deoderant cuz she said taiwanese people don’t sweat very much… or smell for that matter… i have a hard time believing her, but i guess that’s the general conception.
I looked everywhere but could only find OB which I don’t like to use. Get them on your visa runs to Hong Kong or pack 'em in your suitcase from your home country, or have friends bring them for you (all of the above I used to do). At any point in time I always had a FULL suitcase of them in Taipei and am still going through the inventory even though I’m now back in the U.S., lol…
No woman should have to live in Taiwan without Tampax or Playtex. Even attempted to be a distributor for Playtex during my earlier years there. =)

I knew I’d find the answer somewhere here… I haven’t seen a single tampon in a store… though pads are on full out-of-the-package display which seems a bit much… and I wondered if I was imagining things.
Some things I will not give up… I will be packing the big-ass Costco boxes of Tampax here… and I am surprised to hear that Costco doesn’t sell them. It’s a big seller back home. WHY don’t women here use them? Is it taboo? Pads are so gross especially when it’s hot and sticky out.
On the b.o. thing… I never wear deodorant either, and I never stink even when I am really sweaty (this is not my imagination, I’ve done the sniff-test challenge with friends who didn’t believe me, but I still don’t stink after three days of camping). Just like most Asian people, I have little to no body hair. I think underarm hair is a crucial part of smelliness… it gives bacteria a great place to live and that’s what causes the smell.
You can buy applicator tampons in Watsons right now. A brand called kira, kira or something. I’d pick them up sooner rather than later if you’re running low, cos you never know when that kind of stuff will just disappear again.
What’s wrong with OB? I never had any problem with them.
I agree that Taiwanese should start using deodorants. I sat next to this young girl the other day in the MRT, and the smell was UNBELIEVABLE.
