I’m living in Tien Mou, and I’d love to get a Vespa. Does anyone know of any dealers around here? There is one near the Chihshan MRT, but he has white and silver. I want red!!

You didn’t say if you’re looking for new or used, but I bought from my “local dealer” (a guy on Dingzhou Rd., near Shitda/Taida) and he’s been very good about helping out, repairs, etc. His shop is at the corner of Dingzhou and Dong’an St., I believe. Anyway it’s definitely on Dingzhou Rd, between the intersections with Guling St. and Jinmen St. I know he had a nice new red one in stock, I saw it (and was sorely tempted, but I’m a dyed-in-the-wool old-style 150 rider so have an old green 150 now).
I know no one’s gonna believe it, but the above spelling for “Shida” is really, truly a typo…
There is a dealer on Pa De Rd. East of Guang Hua Computer market. I think it is nearby the intersection of Pa De and Civil Blvd.
In TienMu, I can’t remember where thee is a Vespa dealer.
If I lived in Tien Mu I would want a Vespa too. I live in ShiJr nearby the highway so I drive a car everywhere. I only use my scooter for short trips.
I guess it’s actually a Piaggio I want, but I was pretty certain they are made by Vespa. I’ll have to run around tomorrow and see what I can find. I do appreciate the feedback! I feel like I have explored for five months on foot, and I want to expand my perimeter some. A scooter seems like a cheap way to get around - if I don’t get killed.

I can confirm Hobarts information about the location. Should be easy to find.
I have driven a Vespa in Taiwan for over 17 years. Private message me for address of “the man.” (That’s the motorcycle man, not me : )
if all else fails check yen ping n rd, i think section two, cram packed with motorcycle shops
Hey I was driving by that Piaggio/Vespa dealer on Pa De Rd that mentioned above and they had more than one red one that I could see as I was driving by.
I went to the shop suggested by Ironlady (thanks!) and he actually had a nice coffee and cream one - not as hot as the red, but more vintage-y looking.
I also got a flyer from him that lists the website taivespa.com.tw that (apparently) lists all the Vespa dealers. I just have to get someone to translate…
:x
Hey what about the shop I suggested? One guy verified the address and I verified that they have red ones, i.e., more than one.
I didn’t make it out there. I was actually looking for something close to home, so mechanical support would be close by. I actually found a shop I liked near the stadium that is across from Taipei Fine Arts Museum. They were very busy, and the daughters spoke some English. The two daughters and the father were very nice.
I’m vaguely confused by the fact the 2002 and the 2003 models are the same price. In the States there is always this clearance sale to get rid of the old models. Not the case here I guess.
I’m still torn between the coffee and cream, or the blazing red… I hope to have it by Chinese New Year so I can enjoy the time off buzzing around…

Is there much of a difference with the new 2003 models?
I just found out there is no difference. They made no model changes. Still, I think I will have the shop order me the 2003 model (ten day wait) on the notion that if I ever sell it, it will be that much newer (or will one even be able to tell the difference?)
There is a cool web page I found of a store back in the States (where the scooters are noticeably more expensive)(US$3999!!)
If you click on scooters on the bottom, then colors, you can roll your mouse over and see the colors.
What do people think - alabaster or red?

That link is dead now, but I’m still interested in it.
Anyone know if there is another link like it?
Josefus: I just purchased a Vespa recently. Where do you live and I can help you find a dealer. Also, they no longer sell the ET8/ET4 here in Taiwan nor the newer version the LX. they stopped manufacturing in Taiwan for this market. They only sell the Granturismo and/or GTS. Those two look alike and I not sure which is was. Those only have 200 or 250cc engine size and are pricey. I think the cheapest you will find after discount is NT$175,000, compared with the Taiwan made ET8’s (same as the ET4 from abroad) that cost NT$65,000. Now you can find used ET8s. A lot of them. They are pretty stable and solid and similar to the Italian made ones that they only imported in 1998, after that, they changed a lot of the parts with Taiwan made parts. I purchased a 1998 (Made in Italy) model from Ebay. There is a guy off of Keelung that runs the Taiwan Vespa fan club. He sells the GTs or Granturismos and I think he even sells te PX 150s, price is not cheap fpr the PX though. I think they run about NT$150,000 probably more.
So let me know what you are looking for and where you live and I will let you know where to go.
Whoa! Then I just got me a really, really good deal here in HK!
Not sure of the model, or the final price, but I know the chap bought it for HK$18,000 four years ago. It is in very good nick.

HG[/quote]4 years ago, then he probably sold you a Taiwan made ET8 model. For HK$18,000 that is about the same price they were selling for in Taiwan 4 years ago new. So how much did you pay? A 4 year old Vespa Et8 here in Taiwan would be between NT$40,000 and NT$60,000. These bikes are really holding their values. For the 1998s from Italy they are actually slightly increasing in value.
Zoinks!
I can’t pay those kinds of prices.
I should just buy a junked out one on the cheap and haul it to a shop to be fixed up.
Wonder how much that would cost?
We haven’t settled on a price as yet. He said it’s the real deal from Italy. And to clear up further confusion, he bought it second hand. Obviously I have to get the model and that stuff but just too damned busy chasing my tail in the office ahead of lflying out to Taiwan tomorrow night . . . pant . . . pant . . . pant!
Basically I bought the right to use it, but he will eventually leave HK. I think he wants to keep it, but won’t be able to ship it back. My first payment is to fix some external issues. Cheap stuff, really. And also to get some permits - you need government permits to use certain roads on Lantau, which is where we live.
An odd deal, but there you go.
