Where can I see pigeon racing?

There are so many Taiwanese putting efforts and love in training their “flying rats” that I feel I should go and have a look. Who knows, maybe it’s fun…
I’ve been asking to people working in my company but they’re obviously trying to avoid answering me.
Any info on that? Thanks.

Whilst I don’t believe pigeon racing itself is illegal, it’s highly connected with gambling and gangsters, and you maybe can’t find a legal race, which might be why your collegues looked shifty.

Can anyone clarify this for me ?

That’s about the size of it Matthew.
Anyway, racing 'doos is not exactly a spectator sport – all you’re going to see is a few blue trucks, scooters and a few shiny black cars with heavily tinted windows on some dirt road somewhere. The trucks’ll unload a few cages, they open the cages, the birds fly away and everyone goes home to wait for the birds to arrive.

Oh… OK.

That makes my question kind of stupid then…

Thanks for the explanation anyway.

There is a pigeon trainer (correct word?) who flies his birds in our neighborhood. Pretty cool…they fly around our building. Sometimes one of them will lands on our roof and my dogs go nuts. If you go to the river near here you can get a good view of the pigeons doing laps around buildings and the guy telling them what to do!

  1. Where is “our neighborhood”?

  2. Roughly what days and what time of day do you see the birds?

Thanks,

Pigeon FANCIER!

Seeker/Taurus: You can see the pigeon lofts on the roofs of buildings all over Taipei and the counties - there are at least four that look over the Number Four Park in Chung Ho, who fly their birds usually in the morning. Look out for grown men standing on rooftops waving large flags! Oh, and flocks of pigeons! I used to live above the Chung Ho Pigeon Racing Club on An He Road, but it moved recently - sorry, don’t know where to! Here’s a piece from the TT
