Where do you keep your savings: Taiwan or your home country?

Your total numbers from SE Asia in that chart you compiled are not added correctly.

Taiwan has a labour shortage and a shortage of students. Based on personal observation, I don’t think we have a shortage of rich people hanging around Bellavita Mall.

Guy

That’s not true. You’re Taiwanese so you don’t get counted in that anymore.

I was still Australian when I left :joy:

Also do people who naturalise become -1 from the stats?

Yet another reason for @Helpful1560 to update his chart. :joy:

Guy

They tend to have higher expectations and more options?

When looking at the people from western countries coming here, not many are “rich” when they arrive, making business here and become “rich” there are some more

Not all are like Robert J. Pera who recently bought an apartment close to TPE101  If counting him and doing the average then… (maybe he is outside the statistics though as I doubt he is counted as a resident)

But generally, I would agree that Westerners are “richer”, but some of the people who came from India to Taipei, definitely have deep pockets

You get moved into the nwohr category. You never cancelled your ARC.

Alright, alright. Fixed up the table. Original data source: NIA

So no, not everyone is leaving Taiwan.

But since these statistics are 95% ARC holders, you could say, most people are “not staying in Taiwan long term” (don’t have APRC).

Also keep in mind churn. For every 100 Canadians that move to Taiwan in a year, you have 105 leaving that moved in last year.

My savings is in a hermetically sealed mayonnaise jar behind the refrigerator.

Emergency money for the go-bag.

But back on topic, Taiwan government offers NT$3 million savings account insurance. For many poorer countries, it’s better to keep your shit in Taiwan.

Vietnam only offers NT$60k coverage, Philippines is NT$500k, India NT$175k

Some countries are decent: Malaysia NT$2 million, Indonesia NT$4 million(?!), Thailand NT$1 million

For reference, Japan and Korea are around NT$2 million.

Hope they are in a foreign currency or gold.

This could be a good marketing idea.

In a bank? Dude…put it in something like a stock or a precious metal or something. Sure have some liquidity but keeping it as currency in a bank account will have its value erode daily.
