The question at hand: Where do english speakers (hopefull taiwanese and foreign alike) come together to have a not-so-pricey drink and meet new people? I’ve found dozens of places to see and be seen while burning money at an alarming rate, and it’s just not my scene. I’m looking for a friendly place, hopefully with a dance floor. Any ideas?
You could start with the happy hour on Thursday at Taipei Sports. Look in the events forum. See you there, if I can walk.
I assume that Loretta’s “if I can walk” remark refers to the fact that on that very same day, he will have attended the “All-Chamber Happy Hour” which begins at 6 p.m. here in Carnegie’s. Representatives from major chambers of commerce will be here (including AmCham) so it might be a good opportunity for you to mingle. There is a charge for the buffet which then entitles you to a special price on the drinks.

Carnegies is the best bet. Get in early when it’s crazy hour and the drinks are as cheap if not cheaper than anywhere else. After you’ve had a few the fairly amiable regulars come in and then if you haven’t made a reasonable acquaintance by 9 it doesn’t matter as you’re pissed and the plage starts filling up with wimmin and you can’t stop drinking now and and and…
