Where is the best Fish and Chips in Taiwan?

I have been in Taiwan for 2 months and am missing my fish and chips. I hope sombody can help me. Any suggestions would be good. I love my fish and chips. I like a good beer to go with it aswell.

Thanks whoever

Johnny

In addition to Taipei’s only authentic Fish and Chip shop, The Frying Scotsman,
The Tavern Premier, The Shannon and Carnegies all have reasonably good Fish and Chips and damn fine brews to wash it down with!

All the above places have their own threads in this forum, containing all the information you need and probably much much more. My personal favourite is the Frying Scotsman – very “Scottish chippy” type.
Another thread to check out is the JB’s Restaurant one. They also do very good fish & chips.

Also, you don’t say where you’re living. All these places are in Taipei. Elsewhere, I don’t have any idea.
Watch your waistline!

Bongos does, too, though I haven’t tried it myself.

The Frying Scotsman seems to be the local expat favourite for fish ‘n’ chips, though.

Yes, Bongo’s also does good fish and chips. Sorry for forgetting you Andrew!

I surely hope Johnny Black doesn’t live in some southern rural village or he’s going to be SOOO disappointed reading this thread!

There are various places , but I would reccomend JB’s personally. The mushy peas are really tasty, excellent batter and fish. Where does Johnny Black live??

The Frying Scotsman!

Thanks Duncan. Delicious. I’m the guy who was in there just an hour ago with my Taiwanese wife and 2 year-old daughter. I had to check it out after the rave reviews on this forum and I’d have to agree with them. Delicious food at a reasonable price. We’ll be back. Thanks.

Thanks for all the info people, I also heard while I was out on the town last night that JBs I think its called has good fish and chips ,Beer and is apparently non smoking which Im all for.

I believe that Steven Crow, Simon Crow, Stuart Crow, Samuel Crow, Sebastian Crow, Seamus Crow, Sean Crow, Stafford Crow, Stockwell Crow, Siegfried Crow, Sidney Crow, Scott Crow, Sterling Crow, Shayden Crow and their sisters Sally Crow, Stephanie Crow, Susan Crow, Sheena Crow, Sarah Crow, Sharon Crow, Shawna Crow, Silvia Crow, Sophie Crow, Sabrina Crow and Sandra Crow have all in turn sampled their fish and chips. I believe that they pool their resources for their gatherings in an S. Crow fund.

I am sure they would welcome a Black Crow.

Dont forget Harry and Michael Crow. They enjoy fish and chips aswell!

I’ve tried them all and would rate JB’s as the best by far with Bongos and Flying fishman #2 and #3 respectively.

Well I done JBs last night and was very impressed, The fish and chips definently rates as well as the service and beer. Ill be going back to JBs again thats for sure.
my compliments to the Chef

Johnny ,if you want the authentic taste of Fish & Chips, like back home [ presume your a Brit] there is only one proper and I mean proper Chippy in Taiwan [ actually Asia] and it’s the Frying Scotsman.Proper Chips----Real Cod Fish—Pies-----Brown Sauce-----Malt Vinegar-----Battered Sausages----the full monty.Do your self a favour and get along there. you’ll love it.

Hmmm…Johnny Black…J.B…

Looking forward to his objective review of The Frying Scotsman.

I second that!

Ha! Great deductive skills! (Is deductive a word?)

I have to say, I like the food at Bongos and JB’s, particularly the former, but if someone is looking for authentic fish ‘n’ chips, there really is only one place in Taiwan to get it, and that’s The Scotsman. I’m sure the other places to great FnC, but as authentic as TFS? I dunna thank soo.

I would guess that it would depend upon where you come from, I am certainly the only authentic ‘Chippy’ in Taiwan, however, for people with little or no experience or taste of what the real item should taste like, then pub fish and chips would be okay.

I have tried all others and in my humble opinion, Carnegies is the best ‘Pub Food’ fish and chips, but even that cannot compare to the real thing. I am not for one minute suggesting that my fish and chips are any better than any other Chippy in the Uk (Except Greasy Joes in Larbert, Stirlingshire!).

I cannot be compared to your local ‘Chippy’ in the Uk, the one that you were brought up on, but I do not think that anyone can match the authentic and original taste of the Frying Scotsman, which is as it should be, a good quality ‘nosh’ at as reasonable a price you will find considering that the Cod & Plaice fish are imported fom Europe. (There are other cheaper alternative menu items)

We offer a full range of items that you would expect to find in any Uk ‘Chippy’, Pies, burgers, chicken, sausages, prawns, mushy peas, curry sauce, onion rings, etc, with baked potatoes now available and pickled eggs, onions and deep fried Pizza coming soon, we also offer such delicacies as the deep fried mars bar, bounty and snickers as well as scraps!

Get real~

I am sure JB enjoyed JB’s, lets hope he/she will be able to introduce his or her good self to the frying scotsman!

For fish and chips, you’ll find it hard to beat JB’s and the Frying Scotsman, IMHO

What?? I have never heard of deep-fried pizza. Is this a normal food where you come from?

Do you batter it? Can you elaborate?
