Where to get a good bargain for a '08 MacBook Pro adapter

Hello friends,

Would anyone happen to know a legit place in Taipei you can buy an adapter for a 2008 15" MacBook Pro? I’d like to avoid the Apple Store if possible since I’m on a budget. Or is there a Best Buy/Fry’s equivalent around here?

Thank you in advance

i have a used one that i rarely use. i bought a new macbook and been using that charger instead. let me know if you’re interested…it looks like this, not sure if this is the one u want:

Hi Ovechkin, thank you for your offer! Incidentally, someone’s passed on their adapter to me a couple hours ago and it seems to be working well so I’m good on that front. On the other hand, is there any chance you know where to get a new battery for said laptop?

Edit: spelling

im not an expert on finding non-apple replacement parts but maybe u can try guanghua, the electronics supermall. they seem to have everything there, including computer batteries. not sure about price.

The first and simplest answer would be to go to a local Apple dealer and ask.
Second, you could try posting on this forum oikos.com.tw/v4/viewforum.php?id=23

oikos.com.tw is arguably THE website for everything Apple in Taiwan.

Try ebay US…

The newer unibody macbook pro has a non-user replaceable battery… I am assuming you have the older non-unibody macbook pro?

 I sell them!
I don’t have a price list with me at the moment, but I can tell you that the Apple batteries are the same price as the online shop, and the generics are $3000~$4000 with 6 month warranty.
Can’t really remember exact price off the top of my head.
The third party batteries aren’t as good as the Apple batteries, but should last you a while(possibly till your next purchase of a new laptop).

But first, may I ask why you need a new one?

It wouldn’t happen to be because of Snow Leopard problems, would it?
I’ve been having issues with false battery errors that seem to be quite common among upgrades from 10.5.8 .

The battery actually lasts as long as it ever has, but the meter is seldom accurate.
I’m aware of this, so I just guesstimate how much time I actually have, and work around it.

It’s definitely OS related as, I’ve re-installed Leopard and found no problem.
Also, as I mentioned earlier, the battery actually works just fine.

yessir, 2008 15" MBP… the last ever model that came with a replaceable battery.

Hi Nam, I’m all Lion so I’m guessing it’s not the Snow Leopard acting up. or would Lion have the same effect? In any case the battery I have now wasn’t the original one anyway (that one gave out 1.5 years ago), so I’m not really expecting this one to last much since it’s not from Apple. A full charge now will probably get me around 45 minutes or less until the battery dies and shuts off. It’s a little frustrating is all.

The most I can do is around 60 bucks (US) give or take a couple $, so If any kind soul out here knows where I can get one please let me know.

Hmm…

Yuki’s about right.

Google “refurbished MacBook Pro Batteries”.
Came up with quite a few, but most at the top were ringing in at $150(USD) or so.

I’ve got new ones(non-Apple of course) for $3500 though.
