Where to go for a good barfight / disco fight...?

I’ve heard a number of stories that go something like this: foreigner goes to bar / disco, hits on Chinese / Taiwanese woman, gangsters beat him up. Now I’m working on a little fiction project and would like to put something like this in it. Obviously, I’m going to have to go out and start one of these fights for the sake of research. (wink) So can anybody suggest which bar’s or disco’s gangster clientele would be most likely to oblige? Full descriptions of your experiences would be great, if you can spare the time.

Is Taipei better than other places? And are their police more likely to respond? (I’ve heard they sometimes just look the other way rather than break up some free-for-all.)

I thought Kaoshuing was better for this, but you might end up dead.

Do you recall what happened in Hsinchu a couple of years ago at the Pig&Whistle…a lot of foreigners (including a couple of girls) got beat up pretty bad that night. The bouncers at the bar didn’t step in and no one bothered to call the police. Even once someone got around to calling the cops…they didn’t show up.
I’m not sure if “gangsters” were involved or just a group of young taiwanese punks looking to f&*k up some foreigners…either way…i’m sure it’s not a good idea to “go out and start one of these fights for the sake of research.”

You’d get better chances of a fight going to a foreigner’s pub and hitting on the foreigners’ women.

I remember

Quentin is spot on. go to places foriegners frequent and you will find what you are looking for.

Anyone remember the Tibetan gang at TU?

Sure do. And at Night Owl. And the Sri Lankans at Buffalo Town were always up for a scrap. They’re all married with kids and settled down these days, though. Just as well – I NEED my curry rotis!

Does he still wear the black glove?

Dreams behind Sogo in Kaohsiung should have what you are looking for…

Go into (name withheld) on Yen Chi after 10 pm.
Ask for John.
Either
A Call him an elf
or
B Tell him you want the Irish Window Dressing Special

Your work will be done…

Oh god.

Come to a Forumosa Happy Hour. Those are always brimming with underlying tension and potential for violence.

Try to hit on one of the available western guys and one of us western women will beat you up.

If you come to the location of the next HH then that’ll cover the chief’s advice too.

Be careful when you cross the roads in Taipei. Yellow ones don’t stop.

Dat tru.

You could try the Leopard Club in Taichung.

I was just joking about that part. But thanks for thinking compassionately of me.

Yes, I do remember the Pig & Whistle fracas (or at least, online accounts of it). Does anything like that happen in Taipei, or would it basically have to be further south? (Someone mentioned Buffalo Town…)

What’s this about Tibetans? What’s “TU”?

TU’s an all-you-can-drink bar on Fushing Rd. Not sure of the exact address.
It’s very popular with the young, trendy Taiwanese hip-hop crowd.
It’s in a basement, and has a very nice interior, but is a little small.
If it used to be a violent place of ill-repute, it’s not anymore.

“Spin” at the corner of HePing and Jin Shan rd just around the corner from Roxy 99 used to be a big gangster hand out. I got my ass handed to me there by 5 or 6 years ago.

Also “The Player” in Jiayi had the best bar fight (No foreigners involved) I have ever seen on New Years Eve complete with stabbings and tazers. Lots of bloody half dead gangsters.

Why looking so far?
Got to maffia county Yong-he, enter the first bar- club you see and call the owner by the kao*** word. Service granted. but in the “name of research”/ you must like SM don’t ya?? :flog:
