Who changes the films over here?

I read in my China Post supplement today that the Taiwanese government have banned from general release five films that will be shown at this year’s Golden Horse film festival, including the redo of Apocalypse Now and Y Tu Mama Tambian from Latino director Alfonso Cuaran, a man so controversial he’ll take the helm of the next Harry Potter movie.

A GIO spokesman defended the move by saying Taiwan was still a conservative society but with the films concerned dealing with homosexuality and teenage sex (according to Nelson in the Post) are the moral agitators not simply pulling on the blinkers?

If you’re going to ban films why not ban tripe like Pluto Nash instead of films that people actually want to see.

Taiwan conservative? Never!

No, wait, check out the TSU legislator in today’s Taipei Times, ranting about the filth that goes on up at the Huashan Art Center – his chief complaint (backed up with explicit photos, mind you) seems to be – prepare yourself – males on stage wearing nothing but their trousers!

Oh, the horror!

I love the way all three English papers have features and schedules for Golden Horse today when all the show (or about 95%) are already sold out.

Sandman, what article are you talking about? Do you have a link?

Sorry Chainsmoker, its in the print version of today’s China Post (P.15, TSU legislator criticizes management of arts zone).

I guess the editors felt it would be too embarrassing to put the story on the Internet.

just buy the pirated vcd?

Finally sit down in MacDonald’s for my dinner and open my Taipei Times. A 3 (naked) person picture intrigues me and I start to read the movie review of “KEN PARK”.

“Thankfully Korine’s penchant for lurid sex scenes, most of which have been clipped for audiences in Taiwan.”

How many governments on earth like Taiwan’s censors films for their citizens? I hope any NGO or NPO can lobby Taiwan government to change it soon.

Goooooood News…

After reading today’s Taipei Time, I know that there is a Golden Horse moive festival in Warner Village. I check it online. No censorship in this festival. Movie introduction here. If anyone want to go together, tell me.

Also, I have to thank those who contribute to this policy. People do work a lot I’m just too blind to know.

I don’t fault Taiwan for clipping some stuff from Ken Park. It has been banned in Australia. I’ve seen the uncut version, and parts of it are pretty unsettling, and I usually can handle pretty raunchy stuff. Good movie, but really over the top.

the leading lady is filipina chinese irish indian samoan haiwaiin lebanese sexy salsa mix, i heard.

censorship is wrong. the artist worked hard. let the viewers decide and vote with their feet.

i will wait to watch DVD

She is
HOT!

This started last year, when I watched the film “Momento” on VCD. Well, as many of you know, it’s played backwards here. Very strange.

But then, last night, I turned on the TV and “Demolition Man” was on. Since I hadn’t seen it, my boyfriend updated me by telling me how the future was portrayed in the movie. He said that all the fast food restaurants had a war, and Taco Bell was the winner. But last night, in the film, they dubbed over “Taco Bell” and replaced it with “Pizza Hut”. They even went so far as to place fake “Pizza Hut” signs (that looked very fake and were even shaking) on cars and windows.

Have you noticed any other changes in films over here? Is it legal?
Just curious.

That’s bizarre. DVD ‘extras’ are radically different here. You don’t get half the stuff you’re supposed to get, sometimes nothing at all.

I’ve heard of scenes being deleted but not altered in the way you describe.

That change was made in Demoltion Man a long time ago, I guess Pizza Hut objected to their name being used like that.
The memento thing: bunch of arsebiscuits, so I bought the Region 1 DVD.
Which DVDs are you referring to spack ? There are a couple that aren’t done properly, and a bunch of oldies that are not much more than VCD’s put on a DVD. But most are done properly nowadays.
Did anyone else notice a whole story line removed from ‘Love Actually’ ?

Aren’t Taco Bell and Pizza Hut both subsidiaries of Pepsi?

You’re faster than me!!! I picked up the DVD in Shanghai last weekend and put it on this week. Didn’t realize it when the two first came up. But then it dawned on me that they had cut out all scenes with them. Weird!

Used to be, then Pepsico spun the pair off, with KFC, too, as Triglobal Brands.

Triglobal in turn bought Long John Silver’s and A&W and in the reorganization renamed itself Yum! Brands. (YUM) Based in Louisville, I believe.

Maybe because you can visit a Pizza Hut here in Taiwan but not a Taco Bell  .
Ad placement?

And for the record, that’s pronounced 'loo-uh-vuhl"…not “loo-ee-vil” or even :noway: “loo-is-vil” :noway:

And now that the Midwestern American English lesson is over…

What characters are cut out of Love Actually? It’s not the story line with the girl and her brother, is it?

Fluffy, I was thinking of the Gangs of New York DVD which only has two trailers for B movies, that’s it; no behind the scenes stuff, no interviews, nothing.
