Maunaloa, who did you used to post as?[/quote]

Buttercup.

Madam, surely you are telling a pork pie?

I am flattered beyond dissimilitude. I am now an alter ego. I can’t be otaku. Oh joy.

I must now try something bilious in D&R to see if I’m temped.

Don’t confuse me like this. My morning medication hasn’t taken effect yet. You could always become an Akiba-kei.

The closest I’ve come to being Akiba-kei was reading Wm Gibson’s Idoru. Too bad Gibby could never top Neuromancer.

Now I’ve blown my cover. Buttercup and I are different metaphors in the same gravity well.

Burning Chrome. But as for the rest :snore:

Buttercup, thank you. I have had my first temped post by association.

Elegua, the irony is the Burning Chrome collection of short stories was written before Neuromancer, and I think was also published before Neuromancer. IMO, Neuromancer is to the last half of the 20th c. as Ulysses is to the first half. I guess that makes Vancouver BC into the new Paris.

MUST apologise. I try not to associate with you lot, but I have no moral fibre.

Yes I know. i was suggesting that it was all down hill from there. You can see the prototype for Neuromancer in Burning Chrome. I’ve re-read neuromancer recently and I found that it wasn’t as good as I remember.

I hated Ulysses. But then again, I was abused as a child and sent away to boarding school where my sensibilities were abused by being forced to read The Unbelievable Prevalence of Porking and told it was art.

I fear you do have a keen sense of morality, as evidenced by your indignation at moral affronts. Maybe I’ll spot one soon.

Anyway… since this thread wasn’t temped for salacity, it must have been temped for being “devoid of meaning”, with the sad implication that connotes.

There is only room for one person here who speaks by ancient tongues. Be gone cur!

I wasn’t forced to read the Unbelieveable Prevalence of Proust until university. Talk about a waste of time… seven times over. The French originals, it is said, are like being a bee in ambergris.

I thought he/ she said Cornetto’s. I’d like a mint Cornetto, wouldn’t you?

Proust! Ha. Thomas Mann is much worse. You ever tried to read, Mario and the Magician. Yikes its a stinker. And on the subject of the unbearable prevalance of porking, I did enjoy the film version of, ‘The Joke,’ and thought ‘The book of laughter and forgetting,’ made a suitable companion as I sat at Lords watching Gatting carve out his umpteenth century of the season, (with Ramps slashing away at the other end.)

Maunaloa, I, have the XY set. My meta-friend Buttercup, based on numerous gender references, has an XX set. We also have different dotted decimal addresses, so the mod could easily see BC’s jest was not insurrection.

The Lords, Gatting, century, I surmise, has to do with cricket? I, as a Yank, know of the insect.

OK - got any nuts and chocolate

Then I shall just have to accept, as hard as it is to believe, that there is another poster of learning on these boards. Three and rising!

The Lords! How quaint. I shall tell the boys about that funny one from our cousins overseas. Yes, it has to do with the cricket!

And as you are an American I shall remind you and your nation, again, that we want Alistair Cooke’s bones back.

Try some ethos-muffins.

Do they have flax seeds in them? They make me poo funny. As does being nice to people, to be honest.

Now I understand why you need fiber.
