It may be time for a quick story about Willy-the sperm.
Willy you see, he was a body building sperm. Very much a type A personality. A leader among sperm. He was not going to go through life a follower. Everyday he trained and trained and built up his swimming capacity. For he wanted to be THE ONE. The WINNER who got the JOB done ! The ONE who landed on the moon, so to speak.
The TIME CAME and the hordes rushed forward ! Willy swam with all his might. He pushed and he shoved and he swatted others with his tail. Finally he was in the LEAD. The Race was ON.
Willy gained some distance from the others . Mind you they were no chumps. They were literally right on his tail.
Then , strangely Willy came to a screeching halt. What happened? Wasn’t he headed for Olympic Gold?
Willy turned around and shouted to all those who were following : STOP STOP STOP STOP ITS A BLOWJOB !!!
The key point here is “correct use” rather than actual use (aggregate statistics). A woman is essentially infertile a week after ovulation. Obviously, the implication here is that it only works if she has regular-as-clockwork periods; and/or you can use body-temperature tracking, which works well.
The single study you mention about live sperm has never been successfully replicated, AFAIK, and was poorly designed to begin with (read the method). If done properly and conservatively, it’s very, very effective. It’s quite surprising how little good research there is on the subject.
@djm409 : not all STD are contracted through intercourse. Some, like herpes, can come from parents or even dentist (usage of used tools)… and some other, like human papillomavirus, can come from swimming pools (scratching wart for example), dentist… So better have them checked before performing cunnilingus or whatever else. And it was just like “let’s have it check together to make each other safe”. As for making love, we are all clumsy at start but learn quickly. Just some discover they don’t like it and some just enjoy themselves much. And with all the material on internet, one’s can learn anything so fast now…
Thanks for your opinion, but if you had read through the topic, you would know I stayed, found another solution, enjoying it and trusting her more than ever.

have I told you the story of a classmate that was, let’s say, overly fertile? She and hubby tried everything under the sun… by the 8th kid they decided to close the factory. Lo and behold, there was a bullet in the chamber…
I wasn’t suggesting it’s an ideal method all by itself, but if you’re also using another somewhat-unreliable method, such as condoms, it’ll bring the likelihood of pregnancy to near zero. Even so, I know at least two people who have used it (exclusively) with 100% success (or 100% “failure”, depending on how you look at it) for years.
It’s very much a YMMV thing: there are many variations on the theme, some of which are much more reliable than others. A lot of people who say they use the withdrawal method actually … well, don’t, or don’t fully understand how it’s supposed to work. A lot of women don’t have regular ovulation, but there are at least two well-established methods for guesstimating the timing: basically, if you wanted to use this method exclusively with good reliability, you’d need to do a bit of experimentation to figure out your own particular biological quirks.

To be honest, what really pisses me off is Murphy’s Law applied to pregnancy: if you are underage, no job, no stable relationship, you see a pair of briefs hanging on the wash line… BINGO! Pregnant! But if you are a stable, probably married couple, years together, good earnings, own house, throw more stuff into the asset ledger and then it will take an Act of God plus a miracle of Science to get pregnant -and yes, it might have to do with age, but I think the Universe has a terrible sense of humor… The more people want a baby, the harder it will be to conceive… Yet people who have no business owning a pet rock make kids like churning out arepas… sigh
Sorry, just read my FB feed.
ps.
BTW, Finley, my classmates tried everything, condoms, pills, the thing you put under your skin, not the IUD I do recall, but almost everything.

In Taiwan, there are a lot more virgins than there are people who’ve never had sex.
Well, that makes a whole lot of sense.
Yep…it’s called lying.
Or are we using Bill Clinton’s definition of sex?
Ha. And then there’s hymen replacement surgery, a very popular “cosmetic” procedure in Taiwan.
