Why are light switches upside down?

Where I come from, up is off and down is on. Here it’s the other way around :loco: Why’s that ?

Should we have a light switch forum ?

In the US, up in on and down is off. Taiwan’s electrical system is probably based on the US system.

What’s odd is the fact that almost all switches here seem to be rocker switches.

I perfer the US way…but all the light switches in my house go from left to right. :fume:

Why not? Can’t Taiwan do something differently, to establish it’s own identity?

Absolutely.

Why is that odd?

PS:

I’d expect to see a variety of styles. Maybe some lightswitch manufacturer here has a monopoly!

Don’t complain – in my house they go from right to left. :fume:

[/quote]No, it should do everything the way I want :raspberry: Besides, there’s been rather a lot of threads on light switches lately, I wanted one too.

You know you can take the cover off, unscrew it and turn in upside down, reinstall it, then it will be just like home.

I’m sure everyone will see that it is less confusing my way around and wonder why they had them upside down in the first place.

I want a dimmer switch for my fluorescents. How do you say “ballast resistor” in Chinese? One of you engine ears should know.

Can you actually put dimmers on flourescents?

I think you should all reinstal your light switches to be exactly like you like them, and then move out. Let the next people be confused.

Clap on. Clap off.

Clap on clap off.

The clapper.

:bravo:

Yup. IIRC a thing called a “ballast resistor” is involved. But I could be dreaming. I would like to mess about with the lights in the office because I am a child.
