Hi all! I would like to get a few quotes from you guys on why you think Taiwan is a Road Cyclists Paradise. I have heard several people comment this and have come to believe this myself after my exploration, mainly in the Taipei area.
Please indicate which country you come from when you submit your quote
Taiwan’s great for cycling. No question. But it’s not as nice as Humboldt County, CA (USA): spectacular coastline, great hills, redwood forest, great weather most of the year, and almost no traffic.
It’s no wonder former Ironman champ Mike Pigg and US Postal Service rider Damon Kluck were born and raised in Humboldt.
is there a word limit, like in 20 words or less and which free prize draw will be entered into?
Like, do we get a chance of winning the below pictured if we win*?
*all applications are assessed according to the judges discretion. All judgments are final. Daughter of contestant owner is allowed to enter competition and is guaranteed to win the prize… suckers
On the mountain descents, you don’t know what’s making you cry more, the sheer speed or the pollution
I’ve ridden most of them, and yes, some of them are fun to ride, but the biggest problem with off-road trails here is that they’re not continuous enough. What Taipei needs is designated mountain bike trails, like they do in Hong Kong, trails that are regularly maintained and free of hikers and steps.
there a hill, here a hill, everywhere a hill hill…
my thanks to the local authorities for building so many roads that go nowhere in particular. we know this is to line the pockets of the county contractors but it works out great for us too!
The really great cycling in Taiwan is out of Taipei. The cross-island highways offer lush scenery rising from tropical jungles to temperate cypress forests well above 2000 meters.
The ride at 5AM up Taroko gorge or scaling the southern cross are both world class.
Networks of side roads conceal many, many treasures.
If you have any photographs taken while cycling, please post a couple on here Just 1-2 per post and your favorite. It has to be a photo while on a bike ride. My camera is a point and shoot one so the pictures I have taken don’t really do the scenery justice. I’ll figure out a way to carry my Nikon SLR comfortably at some point.
