I’m a huge fan of this little Island. Much safer and better place to work than China.
This am (Sat) in my office building two insurance agents attending a seminar were smoking. My office is in a non smoking building, big signs in English and Chinese. I dont like to have to come into the office on Sat, and I dont want this place filled w second hand smoke. I took the offending agent and a colleague downstairs to chat with the guard. 30 min later, their supervisor politely knocked on my door to profusely apologize.
This would never happen in China, where it seems smoking in buildings, bathrooms etc, is required.
True, it is possible to make lots of money very fast in China. But the air is completely polluted, and the stress that goes with life in China detracts from the higher monetary compensation.
This sounds like a small thing, but its the small things – smoke free buildings, courteous police, free speech, clean air, green parks – that make Taiwan far ahead of Shanghai, Hong Kong, or any other city in China.
