Wifly.com.tw - Wireless Taipei starts on 26 December?

Yesterday’s Liberty Times had an article (in Chinese) that announced that the Taipei-wide wireless network launches in a limited capacity on 26 December, with a picture of somebody accessing the internet from a laptop on a subway platform. Access is free until end of January, but one has to register at www.wifly.com.tw.

I don’t read Chinese, so perhaps I got a bad translation. Is this accurate? Is this the m-city project: wireless access for the whole of Taipei city by December 2005? The website is clearly geared for PDA access and is only Chinese. Does it require a local ID card? Can anybody post a direct link for registering?

Anyway, I hope somebody can check this out and report back to the board later this month on speed, reliability, etc.

Yes you are required to enter your ID card number.

The registration page is at:

Thanks.

It’s a startup company so who knows? They’re asking for $2000 per year for the access, $15000 for 7 years.
