I just picked up my ARC today. I have been working for the last few months and not paying any tax because I did not have an ARC. On the ARC it says the date where it was issued 2004/07/15 I am taking this to be the date of issue. The date of expiry is 2005/05/31. I would like to know if I will have to pay tax on the months before my ARC was issued.

I believe that the Taiwan Revenue Service does not care whether you earned wages illegally, they only care if you don’t pay the taxes due on said illegal wages. In Taiwan, always pay taxes on what you earn, even if you have the job illegally.
If no-one tells the tax people you’re OK.

The tax form your company should give you at the end of the tax year (before Jan 31 next year, theoretically) should list the period of work and the total amount earned. The company may or may not list this period of time before your ARC, but no one cares much, as the previous posters said, as long as the tax is paid. At least that’s true SO FAR. One day they’ll link all these offices somehow and then 95% of us are out of here!!
