Windows XP - How to change picture viewer default settings

When I view photos, ‘Quicktime’ always kicks in. I don’t know how it became my default picture viewer, but it’s annoying because it doesn’t work for a lot of photos, and it asks me if I want to upgrade to ‘pro’ every time I use it!

The standard Windows ‘picture and fax viewer’ seems to work better, but I don’t know how to make it the default. I suppose I could just uninstall Quicktime, but with Windows I always fear the repercussions of an uninstall!

Next time, right click on the file and choose Open With…, then the last option “Choose” (even if picture viewer is on that list).

Then make sure you choose picture viewer from the list in the new window, and that it is ticked as the default application for this type of file.

Open up windows explorer (Win+E) Then “Tools” Menu, then “File Types”, look for “jpg” in the list, press “Change” and you should be able to select the Windows Picture Viewer, repeat for other extensions, bmp, gif etc…

Hey, that worked brilliantly! Thanks! :notworthy:
