Wireless Internet on buses not good for drivers
Wireless Internet on Taipei buses could increase the risk of cancer for bus drivers, the Taiwan Electromagnetic Radiation Hazard Protection and Control Association (TEPCA) said as it urged Taipei City Government yesterday to reconsider its decision to install WiMAX/Wi-Fi wireless Internet connections on public buses.

Although Taipei has been designated a “healthy city” by the WHO, installing WiMAX/Wi-Fi devices on buses would expose drivers to an environment full of electromagnetic waves without proper evaluation of the risks, TEPCA said.
Yeah, right … and the many cell phones on a bus are no risk?

it’s probably a bigger risk than one WiMAX/Wi-Fi connection system … because it probably needs less power to connect than all the phones together looking for a base to connect to …

Isn’t the city already bathed in wifi signals? What about shop workers in shops with wifi, people who have wifi at home, and, in general everybody in the city?

Well the Wimax is a powerful wave. More powerful than Wifi and much more than cell phones.

But yeah the city already have a lot of wifi tho…

But as it is not very clear if these can really increase the risk of cancer…I understand that they are on the defensive mode.

The transmitter and receiver (antenna) are probably outside the bus … so the system inside has to be limited in power to only cover the area in the bus …

Uhm, so the fact that Taipei is already covered by two WiMAX networks that’s beaming signals all over the city has no affect on people in general then? Put a receiver on the bus is somehow going to change the danger level of the radio waves that are already criss-crossing the city? WiMAX is actually transmitting signals at much lower power than cell towers, typically some 25 times lower power. The gear fitted at the bus end is no more powerful than a standard Wi-Fi router. Sure, WiMAX uses a different frequency, but hey…

Yes, very smart. Worry about this but ignore those 10’s of thousands of tons of carcinogenic smoke created by the horde of superstitious mouth-breathers…

The greatest health hazard on many city buses IS the driver.

These people -Taiwan Electromagnetic Radiation Hazard Protection and Control Association (TEPCA)- professionals in their field, have no clue what they are talking about …
