Work Experience - TW Approach

Hey Gangsters. I’ve lurked around here for, like, 5 years now. Thanks for all the posted info.

I wonder if anyone can shed some light on business attitudes towards the attainment of work-exp, in Taiwan.
I’ve been married to a Taiwanese lady for almost four years. First kid due in a couple of months’ time. Wife has been over there knocking back black fungus soup for a while now, in preparation.

So I’m heading over to TW soon, for at least a few months. I know there will be a kid around, and I know it’s going to be crazy, but I would really like to keep myself busy and possibly use the opportunity to gain some exp in TW. Not to get a foot in anywhere, but the reality is that we will have to move there when the little one hits school age, and a few months of my gaining knowledge sure as hell beats a few months wasted.
Currently I work in Australia, as a Logistics Mgr on a couple of emerging aviation platforms. I guess I would apply that to whatever ind. is present, in our area of TW.

So does our style of “work experience” even… exist… over there? Happy to hear any opinions, and if it’s a no-go I guess I can just attend some Chinese classes for the period.

Peace
W.

In case anyone has a similar query in the future, I’ve had a bit of a win.

I put out the feelers in the industry. Seemed more into the B2B than the SCM, but then again I’m not from manufacturing. Cool as the idea of work exp. was to gain this kind of local understanding, without the tax impacts etc of an additional (foreign) income. It looks like I’ll now have paid work instead, though whilst over there. So I guess one TW approach to work exp is… just get a paying job instead.

Peace, & thanks to all who may have given this one some thought.

You wouldn’t want work experience here anyways. “Internship” , “work shadowing” and other terms used in the west that refer to obtaining work experience is another term for “slavery” here. Just get a paying job that you like, don’t sign a contract and leave whenever you feel like doing so. Maintaining a good relationship attributing you leaving because of a grandma’s death or something is also beneficial if you like the place and want to come back to work again in the future.
