Work on a missionary visa --- is it possible?

I may be able to come over to Taiwan on a missionary visa (which would help). That’s a type of resident visa. My question is, will I be able to work on a missionary visa?

Very risky, because work is quite different from the “purpose of your original visa”. I assume you do not wish to give all missionaries a bad name by getting deported as one, do you?

yes, on missionary work and supported by the mission.
yes, for other jobs (I assume) should somebody here provide you with a work permit and a new visa after you get here.
yes, if you do not care that you are working illegally and are prepared to pay the consequences should you get caught.

Otherwise no.

Thanks, that makes sense. I will be on mission work, but I will not be financially supported by the mission, so I have to find other work.

This being the case, what I will have to do is to find a job to support myself, and use that to get a work permit.

If you have a resident visa sponsored by the “Church” or “missionary organization” in question, then that is all you can do. In other words, you can only be involved in those activities. The sponsoring organization should have enough knowledge about Taiwanese laws to tell you this.

To obtain a work permit, would mean that you would be getting a resident visa based on employment . . . . . which would mean that your “missionary” visa would have to be cancelled.

It is either one or the other I am afraid.
