Work on Dec 31

I am salaried. I heard that we should get Dec 31 off, because Jan 1 (a public holiday) is on a Saturday.
Is this true?
Cheers

No. If a public holiday falls on a weekend, we get screwed. Sorry. :frowning:

which is why next year we get royally screwed as at least 4 holidays fall on weekends :fume:

Yeah, if I remember correctly, 2002 was a really crappy year for holidays. I remember going 7 or 8 months without a day off. Maybe I am wrong… :idunno:

according to my local colleague, the holidays fall like this:

1 Jan - weekend
5 Feb - work on weekend to make up 5 days for CNY week
7-11 Feb - CNY YAY
28 Feb - Monday YAY
4 Apr - Tuesday YAY
1 May - weekend
11 June - weekend
18 Sept - weekend
10 Oct - Monday YAY
25 Dec - Weekend

What gets me, is that with all the holidays falling on weekends, i still have to go into work the saturday before CNY to make up the 5 days (or take it as leave) :loco:

I’ve never heard of this before. :astonished: Is this common at your school? Sorry to hear your boss is such an ass. :frowning:

ugh, sorry I should have mentioned I’m not a teacher and work for a huge company. Rumor is that most of the employees sit around doing sweet FA that day anyway :unamused:

Sorry to hear your boss is such an ass. :frowning:[/quote]I think I have to do the same, instead of being an ass, the boss is considered generous for letting us do that :loco: I thought generousity is when you give something, not when you trade one thing for another :idunno:
In the UK, any holidays that fall at the weekend are moved to the next working day, so monday is a public holiday there, they are given a day off when it’s a holiday.

I on the other hand have 3 weeks off on my morning job, because half the students will be on holiday, so no fees, so they can’t really afford to pay me :frowning:
