Work permit for university job

I’ve tried to make sense of this but I find myself going a round and round in circles.

Could someone breakdown what I need to do to legally work in Taiwan at a university that provides a work permit. If we could begin at the point of being offered a job, what am I supposed to do next? I’m British but currently live in China.

I would appreciate the Idiot’s Guide to it.

Much appreciated.

You’ve come to the right place

Lot’s of info here and people usually willing to assist. Me, no idea.

If you’re offered a job, the university should be filing the work permit for you.

You might need a police check from your home country and your degrees notarized by the TECO office back home. Suggest you ask the university about the required documents l.

Normal procedure:

1 or 2) arrive in Taiwan
2 or 1) obtain job offer
3) employer obtains work permit
4) employee obtains ARC and residence visa

Whether or not you can do it starting with a visa exempt entry instead of a visitor (tourist) visa is another topic that you can find discussed in several threads.

This is also possoble

  1. obtain job offer
  2. employer obtains work permit
  3. employee to be obtains resident visa
  4. arrive in Taiwan
  5. employee obtains ARC

@meldrew,

I wonder where you went a round and round in circles.
