Money is a little tight, so I was thinking about taking up something part-time on the side. Would the immigration laws forbid that? If you have a student ARC, does that forbid you to work outside the university or research institution? What about a regular employer-sponsored one?
I googled around and found that there are requirements and rules re: part-time jobs and having to file an application to the NIA, but would they deny the motion? Or do people just do some under-the-table work like individual tutoring sessions?
I’m thinking about maybe things like tech support by answering emails or writing tech manuals or something that I can work out of the home. I had friends stateside who moonlighted that sort of work answering tech support emails for Blizzard and Intuit and basically was paid per email/case responded.

I’d strongly advise against doing anything under the table or off the record. If you get caught and it goes on the record, so to speak, then you can be accused of violating your immigration which would cause you serious problems.
I don’t see how its possible for a person to be in full-time education and working full-time at the same time, nevermind if it’s legal. I’d ask NIA and lodge an application, the worst that could happen is that they deny it - but you won’t risk getting deported or banned from Taiwan if that happens.

I don’t have a student ARC, just wondering what the differences are. And it won’t be a second full-time job, just something I could do over the weekend or something to supplement my income. What about all of the English tutors offering their services on tealit?
You can have more than one employer on your ARC. There is a section on Tealit that clearly outlines the process. Works like a charm.

Oh, ok. If you have a regular working ARC then there shouldn’t be any problems. I think, but am not sure, that it’s ok to be a part time English tutor if you’re on a working ARC and maintain your full-time job.
You can be on a working ARC and have two full time jobs.
