Hi, I will be working in Taiwan for 2 years and will be paid direct from offshore to a Taiwan bank in USD. I am being paid gross and will have to account for my own tax etc. I need to know how to pay tax and is it easy to open a USD account in Taiwan for my salary to go into.
Maybe you can help me. If I am going to leave Taiwan for a holidays during my work contract , when I get an exit pass do I also have to get a tax clearence?
I worked in the Philippines for 5 years and each time I left I had to do my tax return first bfore I could get an exit permit. Was time consuming.
Regards
Brad
When must you pay tax. They will never know if you are leaving for good and if you didnt pay anything, you wont get any money back,so why bother going threw all the trouble and losing money.
If you have an ARC you still need an re-entry permit in your passport, which also serves as an exit permit. This is usually issued with your ARC and is valid as long as the ARC is valid. However, regardless of this, it is no longer required to show proof of having paid all your taxes to leave the country.
Taiwan does not tax income earned from sources outside the country, except if it is for work performed in Taiwan.

Yeah, but you used to need an exit registration permit before you could leave and had to sort out your taxes to get one.
I have a similar question. My family will be moving to Taiwain I will be Telecommuting for a busness in the States and will be paid to an account in the US. Will I have Tax cosequences in Taiwan? My spouse has found work in Hsinchu as an editor and will be paid as a consultant there. Thanks for the help there seem to be many hoops to jump through before we make the move.
