Hello! I’m currently applying for the Huayu scholarship to study in Taipei for 1 year, however, if I do receive it, it would not be enough to cover my full expenses in Taipei as it is of course the most expensive city in Taiwan. I would much prefer to live there as I am a fan of living in very large cities, and would most likely get bored in i.e., Tainan.
I am under the impression I will be able to get a work permit until after 6 months of continuous study, where the extra amount not covered by Huayu would come out of pocket. Once I do get my work permit, I was wondering if I was required to work for an employer or if I would be able to be self-employed as a private English tutor? This is much more appealing to me than a Buxiban, so if possible I would love to be able to do this. If anyone has any information, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
And based on the declining numbers of marriages in Taiwan, most Taiwanese wouldn’t agree. Even the number of foreign marriages have peaked so women from less well off countries would still prefer not to marry Taiwanese.
If you decide that you’re a Taiwan lifer and you’re not planning to leave though it will make life in Taiwan easier. if Taiwan is just a brief stop on a global journey, getting hitched has zero benefits.
I already addressed this in my first post, of course if i find out different info or continue thinking on it i may or may not entertain other cities, but right now i am only looking to find if its possible to work as a private tutor on a student work permit in taipei.
