Working in Taiwan

I have been working here for a little over 3 months now following my boyfriend’s move to Taipei. Work itself isn’t a big issue but the working enviroment is making me so miserable and it is not just the culture. Asking questions = rejecting work. Talking fast in their standard = challenging them. Even running into someone walking to the bathroom one is expected to stop and chat with them. One is expected to be always on their cheery self. This is just utterly unheard of anywhere in the world.

I am simply wondering if I am the only person here in Taipei experiencing this. Appreicate any comment and feedback.

Nope - I appreciate your sentiments fully. I don’t know your situation, but I’ve started to deliberately assert myself more because otherwise I’ll go insane. Too bad if they don’t like it. You could try messing with their minds by acting all nicey-nicey and being the confident, authoritive foreigner in order to keep your boundaries.

Thank you for sharing. Now at least I know I am not alone.

It will be great to get to know you personally, whether it is for rapport building or experience sharing. My email is phoebesc@hotmail.com. Do drop me a note!
