Working untill retirement

How many of you are near or will continue to work in Japan untill retirement? How many of you are teaching? Is it possible to work in Japan untill retirement? I know contracts are for 1 year, does anyone know of any teachers who are still getting contracts in their 60’s?

Actually, I can’t think of any regular posters posting from Japan.

Did you make a posting mistake? Do you mean Taiwan? Also, what angle are you coming from? Are you talking about the legal side of things? Contracts in Taiwan are as long or short as people want them to be, I think. However, if you’re talking about a contract in order to get a work permit and resident’s certificate for someone who doesn’t have another kind of legal residency, then it’s at least a year, with a maximum of three years at a time.

Or are you talking about job availability for older teachers? There’s some good information on this on the forum already, but if you need more then please feel free to ask.

Sorry, was a typo, as u;re aware I am in Tokyo at mo so asked it on their forum too! Yes, I am trying to find out the job availability for older teachers.
Thanks

I think it depends partly on the kind of jobs you’re going for. If you could let us know what age range you are hoping to teach, and mention any relevant qualifications you hold, then it would be easier for us to help you as we would know what your options are.
