Don’t think I’d care one way or the other. I’d be more concerned with what I did in the months I had left. Worrying about where my corpse ends up would be very very low on my list of priorities, I think.
What are you dying of? How old are you? I guess for me, it would depend on what country provided me with my best living experiences and where I feel a greater spiritual connection to. I would also consider the bother of moving back and getting resettled. Spending my last days in Hualian and the East Coast would probably provide me with some solace close to nature and some terrific scenery.
If you know you only have a few months left to live, would you choose to die in Australia or Taiwan?
What are the reasons for your decision?
Points to consider…
You have no friends or families in Australia or Taiwan…
You are an Australian citizen but holds a Taiwanese ARC
You are in Taiwan right now…
monk, get some help. Dont die by your own hands. Just go on with life best you can till you end up dead. It will happen eventually. You got nothing to lose by sticking it out and plenty to gain.
Unless of course you mean medically they gave you just that amount of time estimated? In that case, get out your bucket list and do as much of it as you can.
If that’s the case, you’d better choose Taiwan.
I reckon it has a lower human to animal ratio, and so your chances of being reborn as human would be better.
I’d rather be a human in cramped and crowded Taiwan than a sheep in the outback.
But each to his/her own …
One of the main reasons I am asking this is because of the reincarnation issue.
There is this saying that there is a higher chance for one to be reborn in the same place where you die…
I think I have had it with Asia by now…
It is too bloody crowded and cramped and I do not want my soul to die or reincarnate in a crowded country…
Then its time to leave. As for reincarnation, that’s a whole other ball game that you made no mention of in your original post. Otherwise I would not have bothered responding. Dude! You were born on Earth. And you’ll die here. Make the most of the here and now. Live in the moment. Do what you know you should do and the “afterlife” or “reincarnation” or whatever else you happen to believe in, will take care of itself.
I mean to say, if your “top dude” up there is really such a pissant little shit that he’s going to care if your were born in Waho Texas or a mud hut in Afghanistan, is he really even worth the steam off your piss? I don’t think so.
Plus, I thought the whole POINT is that your soul doesn’t die. If it does, then what’s the point of even worrying about it? :loco:
Well, assuming that your recently-deceased soul jumps to a nearby body that has just been conceived…what kind of future life do you hope to have? If you want your future self to be born into a spiritual setting, then maybe you should try to die in Sedona or Esalen. I think the Buddhist scriptures specifically warn against going to Australia. I mean, don’t they circumambulate stupas in the opposite way from the Northern Hemisphere? That’s got to be some bad karma right there.
On the other hand, deep-fried Mars bars would be a great way to go…

I am not sure what you mean by the buddhist scriptures warning one against going to australia
but they are building one of the biggest buddhist stupas in the world stupa.org.au/
i do not hope to be reborn again on this earth but if i have to, i would prefer to be reborn in Australia than any country in Asia

everything is energy
That’s what my science teacher always used to tell us.
I am an American who lives on Taiwan.
Why the fuck would I want to “choose to die” in Australia?
Its a nice place and I like certain parts of it and like the attitude of Aussies, but really, WTF?
You should die in Australia TC so then I could come and piss on your grave whenever it took my fancy. I don’t mean that in a bad way. I mean I could come and nourish the daisies. If I die first you have equal permission, but don’t smile while you water the headstone. It should be solemn and contemplative.

I can appreciate that.
While I don’t believe in reincarnation, it fits nicely into my worldview-I’m Zen. I consider reincarnation to be irrelevant.
You NEVER know when you are going to die. A negative diagnosis by a doctor has a margin of error. You could get hit by a bus and die tomorrow.
Punishment/reward after this life is irrelevant, because (assuming it happens) it happens in this life anyway. I believe in karma, but not as some kind of energy. More like the Christian quote “live by the sword, die by the sword”. You start a lot of fights, you get hurt.
Basically, live like you MIGHT die tomorrow. Don’t be stuck in a shitty job for ten years-then what’s the point of living? Don’t blow your all money every month. Might is NOT 100%, and who wants to be an old man still working his ass off, but now exhausted because he’s 70 but can’t afford to retire?
Also, if you were reincarnated, you would not be the same person-your opinion now would not be very relevant to your opinion in your next life.
If I knew that I was going to die like, real soon, I would be tempted to take some of the Chinese politburo with me. (For the sake of all sentient beings, of course.)
