Researchers have determined that an additional dollar figure per year is required to be happy based on several factors. yahoo news
Here are my approximate figures. While the researchers actually did some research, I thought it would be funny just to make up the statistics.
All figures below are in NT dollars/month (the numbers above are US dollars/year)
In Taiwan $30,000
Male 13,000
Black 31,000
Never married 49,000
Unemployed 60,000
Divorced 66,000
Widowed 75,000
Wouldn’t never having been married actually increase your happiness? Like Henny Youngman said,
“Take my wife - please.”
Ah, but you don’t realize that until it’s too late, and then they’ve GOT YOU! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!
Actually, it’s been shown that married men live longer and are healthier. (Of course, I personally think this might have something to do with selection.) On the other hand, it hasn’t been shown that they were necessarily happy about it
The article talks about comensation for being unhappy, not buying happiness.
How much do I get for being a forumosa addict? I’m otherwise happy, except that I don’t have enough money. I think it would take millions to compensate me adequately for being poor.
I’m moving this thread to the open forum, btw. More people will see it there, and the business forum is more of a ‘how to’ forum.
If you have NT$50 to put enough petrol in your motorbike or scooter to take you and the pretty young thing who is sitting on your pillion with her hands in your shorts up to a secluded place beside a clear-flowing creek in the hills outside Taipei on a sunny day, then you can buy blissful happiness at a very low price indeed.
