Interesting. Thanks for the tip. I hadn’t heard of Halliwell’s Film Guide until you mentioned it. It sounds like it is one of the most respected film sources out there (apparently started by “Leslie Halliwell”). Unfortunately I am a bit cheap/lazy and generally use the online film guides – and it appears that Halliwell’s is only available in print?

(1) Go to “Profile” at the top of the page.
(2) Go to the bottom of the profile page.
(3) Paste in a url address for an 150x150 or smaller image that you want to use.

The thing is that if you are copying and pasting from someone else’s website, you are using their bandwidth everytime someone accesses a page with your avatar on it. This is called bandwidth piracy (or something along those lines) and they could easily pull your file or replace it with a porn image to pay you back for stealing their bandwidth. There are lots of free image hosts, however, where you could upload your chosen image and they provide you with so much bandwidth usage and file space. I use walagata, but I don’t think they’re giving away free accounts anymore. You could just google in the words “free image host”, though and get some. Cheers.
