What do you really think of the Majesty and lookalikes?
Love it! Powerful, comfortable, practical and good looking
Serves it’s purpose, looks don’t really matter
Indifferent to them. Just like any other scooter
Damn ugly. Wouldn’t ever be caught dead in one

The view on the Yamaha Majesty (and all the recent lookalikes) seems to be fairly divided. It seems like one either loves them or hates them… Just wanted to know what the general view is
I’ve got one, and voted option 2… mine’s one of the last carb’ed versions to come off the line, since they’ve now been replaced by the FI version… the FI system is prone to disaster however and can only be fixed at the Yamaha workshop up north so it’s not for everyone… I heard on the grape vine that we can expect a change in plastics and “BNG” on “the Maj” next year…
The only thing that surprises me is that it’s teeny little 125cc engine can haul what is comparatively a mothership of a scooter around just as well as any other 125cc scooter… ‘but’ it’s still gutless and handles like a shopping cart, so it’s the same as every other scooter out there in that regard… but it does have the advantage of good wind protection, better brakes than most and comfy seats for two… for a scooter that large storage space is abysmal though, and it’s hopelessly under sprung and under damped, especially in the back…
since it’s a little engine dragging a big weight around, the con rod bearings are prone to failure, promting expensive engine rebuilds at around the 10,000km+ mark, so if you’ve got one, you’d do well to change the engine and transmission oil every 1000km’s regardless of the little oil change indicator…
all in all for me, it’s only mission objectives are to drag the missus and I around the city in relative comfort and safety, and be able to park it wherever and forget about it…
The 250cc made in Japan version looks like a much more appealing beast… Maoman has one if i remember correctly, maybe he could give us his thoughts on it…
Majesties have that low, feet-forward seating position. For city riding at least, I think that an upright seating position feels better, and of course gives you a better view.
Here’s a thread I started about the Majesty last year. In the end I decided that they were overpriced and I have stuck with my veteran Duke 125. Now that I’m up here in Taipei I seldom use my scooter so I think I made the right decision. Interestingly, I have noticed a much greater percentage of Majesties on the road in Taipei compared to down south.
