Chiu Wei-jie (邱威傑), mostly known by his moniker Guaji (呱吉), is a pretty famous youtuber. He has a channel called Not Safe for Work, which was a male humour centric youtube channel.
Before becoming an youtuber, Guaji worked for Madhead (Hong Kong based gaming company) and Disney’s Taiwan branch.
As an youtuber, Guaji often commented on political topics, and as his channel grew, he got to interview famous politicians on his channel, showing his interest in political affairs. Guaji announced he would run for city council April of 2018, and successfully got elected.
I think his intention is to expose the inner workings of the political system, so that’s why he said he would not seek reelection.
His videos after his election are very interesting. For example, this video shows that politicians are paying TV news, such as CTI, to get on to panels of political pundit shows. CTI sales called him and asked him if he would be interested to pay them. The sales also disclosed who would be paying them, and when they would actually consider paying the politician instead.
